Self –SWOT
Self-SWOT Analysis
Strengths
Good managers must possess strengths to be able to execute their mandates more effectively. Daft (2012) has defined managers’ strengths as the natural abilities, and talents managers possess, coupled with and buttressed by the skills and knowledge over time. On my part, I possess several skills that make me an effective manager. I possess excellent communication skills that enable me to relate well with employees and other individuals within and outside an organization. I am also innovative and can utilize my creativity to develop new ideas and unique solutions to problems emerging from an organization. I am a goal-oriented person who commits energy and resources at achieving particular pre-set goals. While doing this, I continually monitor and evaluate progress made towards attaining a particular objective against time. I am also extroversive, sociable, outgoing, and an agreeable. These personal traits enable me to interact with people with much ease and establish healthy interpersonal relationships.
Weaknesses
According to Daft (2012), a good manager must be able to delegate duties. In a study conducted to determine the perception about good leadership qualities, the ability to delegate duties was found to be one of the qualities a good manager must possess (Kohail et., al, 2016). However, to a certain extent, I lack the skills to delegate duties. I am passionate about performing my duties, and therefore sometimes I find myself wanting to perform tasks rather than delegating.
Opportunities
As a manager, I have the opportunity to improve my skills through capacity building and training. Besides, I can improve my delegating skills to become more professional and effective in performing my duties as a manager.
Threats
The threat is a term that designates factors within the external environment that puts one at a disadvantaged position (Luenendonk, 2020). One of the main threats I face is the growing competition from people managers with higher qualifications and work experience. Secondly, the profession and industry are highly dynamic; therefore, I need to continuously update and improve my skills and capabilities to remain relevant.
