The assignment essay mainly focuses on the tourism industry and the ill effects of overuse of technologies and innovation in the industry. Though there is no denying to the fact that technology has benefited mankind in numerous ways. Technology has transformed the lives of many people based on doing work. Hospital and tourism industry has witnessed drastic changes in their operation after the introduction of technologies. But over or excessive use of anything can lead to a disastrous situation. In this assignment, discussions are made focusing on industry and the effects of technology on them along with proper solutions to tackle such problems.
Discussion
The benefits of technology have influenced life in every possible aspect. The Internet has become part of everyday life of innumerable people. But along with all the good effects, there are certain ill aspects as well. Though most of the customers are now used to booking tickets online for nay travel including from airlines to hotel rooms, working with telephone trees or other numerous costs exchangeable and keeping devices nowadays. These technological developments have led to drive in manpower but at the same time has empowered to make their own choices.
On the other sides, the customers are getting sued to use technologies more often than they used to do before. Even the tourism industries also take advantage of technology to keep in touch with their potential clients. Most of the people are now harassed with online surveys or phone calls that are driven by computers. Hence as the world has entered into “e -market “, hence it can be called as a system of advance spam as well (CHEN et al. 2017).
Though many big hotels provide the service of free internets, again some hotels take additional charges of local calls, a per sheet fee to obtain fax and internal access. These extra charges often combine with less modified services which indicate travellers have an idea about technology and are on the one-way street. Technological services are mainly used to deliver less personalized services to generate less additional revenues in hotels, transportable hubs and aeroplanes.
Despite the tremendous misuse of technology still, it is seen how the tourism industry is highly dependent on technology to make their life a whole lot calmer. Moreover, there is no doubt in the fact that the cell phone has developed a part of our everyday life. Though the technological etiquettes lag in departments of technology machinery, the inconvenience of speaking with someone talking too loud on a cell phone has more outweighed by safety, convenience and security that cell phone usually provides to the people (Etzkowitz and Zhou, 2017).
Again technological advance has also lead to the worldwide terrorism attack in tourism destinations and industries. Cell phones in both ways can save life or explode bombs, air-conditioned used to make people comfortable in hot climate again the same air conditioner pollutes the air in a considerable extent and certain cases also carry deadly diseases carrying germs in them. The computer gives us the permission to known the forecast of weather, allows the commercial travellers to stay in contact with their company or to succeed the issues across the time zone cooperation, but these features can also be used to abolish the air travels.
The technology by that time has become the varied bag of tourism industries. It has created plenty of conveniences but meanwhile has also been used to generate the revenue at an increased level and lessens the customer service. The technological service has made the air travel more safe compare to early days but similarly, it has also transported in the need to go through long safety check-ups and regular difficulties (Chen et al. 2020).
There are also certain areas of the industry that has started using the technology prudently. But in terms of moral technology can be the best help in growing the safety and safety of our community. Again on the other hand technology is used for destructive purposes as well that can be a big threat to the travel and tourism industry specifically. Hamlet’s enquiry “to be or not to be” has never seen more moving in terms of the travel and tourism industry.
People who are usually potential travellers offer to go through the company website that is published about certain destinations. They even tend to change their minds according to what is written on the company website. So it is very important on the part of a company to be accessing their websites, updating blogs and links, answering the customer’s doubts and queries on time so that they do not lose out on any of their customers (Huo and Wang, 2020).
Another disadvantage of technological advancement and innovation in social media would be, with the advancement of technology the misuse of technologies has also increased, hacking or getting into an account or website has become much easy too, this enables the hackers to access the information and misused the information against the company. So strong security and safety measures should be implemented to avoid such people to access confidential documents (Dehong, 2016).
Last but not the least as mentioned earlier also the advancement of technology has led to unemployment to a considerable level as most of the works are m=now machine-made manpower is not required. Many people who work in hotels such as managers, waiters, and cooks or tourism industry the guides all are losing their jobs because of the smart and innovative ways of technology to get these works done much faster and with utmost accuracy (Boonpienpon, 2018).
It is required to be remembered that tourism is about to interact with different persons. So no problem how developed and advanced technology gets, technology would never be able to provide the human warmth and real experience that the tourism industry is known for. Tourism is always about making and selling new remembrances and then to ask once self at what point he/she is eager to give away their memories for competence. (Liu, 2017).
Technology cannot be operated with the proper knowledge and skills hence many people lose their jobs when they are unaware of running the new technologies. For that reason, it should make sure that the employees are well trained and know how to use the technologies that the tourism industry and planned to implement. Technology can only be as good as the person who is operating it. Often tourism industry does wrong hiring of the people who are not up to the skill or knowledge that they would be able to use the technology, hence in such cases, technology creates more problems and waste times rather than solving the problem or save the time. It is very important as a result to keep the employees of the tourism industry well trained so that they can operate the technologies and do not end up losing their jobs. Moreover, the updating should not be done so often that the employees’ information base is way below the technological competences (Zhu, 2016).
It is always suggested to use the technologies wisely. Even the best technologies and online platforms cannot substitute the care and love that a person receives from another human being. Innovation only if used correctly would be able to make work easy and serve to solve many problems in respect to the tourism industry. Some of these are as follows-
Nothing can upset the clients of the tourism industry as much as the abuse or wastage of time. The appropriate use of computer can lead to both proper checked in and check out of a particular place like hotels, lodges; it would enable the other person in duty to sue his time in some other work. In a world where prevails so many different types of language if technology can be used properly would help in communicating with the clients in their original language without language or any pronunciation and grammatical mistakes (Tian and Yonghong, 2016).
Use of technologies and other social networks can help visitors reach their homes and also collect general information. Though there are many hotel and transportation industries are seen who are more likely to hide their telephone number from their website. Combines the general information that can be given to a human way of knowing. It has to be kept in mind that if the customers are unable to research a particular company then it has to be seen that the client has found a location which is more user-welcoming (Mao, 2019).
Methodology
In the research methodology, 20 tourism industries were invited for the research participation. The research was done by means of a primary research method where the participants were given a survey to fill up followed by a small interview. The participants were asked questions on how the technology is helping them or what difficulties they face because of technology. The main purpose of conducting the research was to known the effects of overuse of technologies in the tourism industry. After the problems are identified like unemployment, increased amount of hacking, confidential website accessing, misuse of technologies to mislead the customers and so on.
Time scale
The research survey took 4 days to conduct and participates to provide their reviews on the matter. The case study preparation took two weeks to get completed. The final result would be out by December 2020.
Conclusion
Technology undoubtfully touches all the aspects of the tourism industry, If people are sensible enough to know the benefits of technology such as in terms of suitability, speed, accuracy and dodge the misuse or overuse of technology then it can be an abundant help in managing time and saving cost. But at the same context if the tourism industry is forgetting about the human element and its importance then it would be of no good to the humankind as the tourism industry is mostly about making memories, warmth and experience without them it would be making a major error.
