Smart Human Services Horizons

The Smart Human Services Horizons (SHSH) is a non-profit organization committed partner to stop the advancement of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in New York State. As a non-governmental organization, the establishment collaborates with other institutions and civil society in actions at the State level. The SHSH mission and mandate are focused on the challenges of HIV/AIDS by integrating population, reproductive health, and gender perspectives.  The organization’s experience in implementing the International Conference on Population and Development agendas has enabled in field operations to come up with initiatives that help the general public focus on the underlying health issues related to the epidemic. Through its board of directors, the organization has played a significant role in ensuring medication is available for the infected population within New York State. The organization is also vocal in educating the community members on the importance of abstinence and other ways of protection. The report is envisioned as a tool to stimulate mutual understanding of all dimensions of advocacy factoring in three significant issues that the Board of Directors needs to emphasize on during the following campaigns against the epidemic.

Fostering partnerships

In recent times, the complexities of HIV/AIDS in New York State have exceeded the capacity of any single sector. The nature of the pandemic necessitates continuous mobilization and collaboration at community levels. SHSH should come up with a strategy to get HIV-specific responses that address the emanating issues regarding the pandemic and the specific vulnerabilities to HIV/AIDS and its impacts on society. The organization also requires greater coherence, coordination, and consistency between sectors. In keeping with multi-sectoral partnerships that help in making effective responses, towards the effective approach for the need campaign (Abboah-Offei, 2019).  The government and the civil society, in collaboration with private entities like SHSH, must continue to be dedicated in the fight against the spread of the pandemic in N.Y.C. and the environs.

The SHSH, through the board of directors, must come up with new ways to complement the already in place strategies and actively collaborate while maintaining the institution’s independence. The financial capabilities and funding institutions influence the independence of the constitution. The freedom to work freely and limitlessly within the governing laws helps the organization handle the community’s situations without any form of influence in data or research findings. SHSH is committed to continuous research and on the trend and prevalence of the pandemic within the State. The organization must continue to deliver credible findings that help in strategies necessary in the fight against the pandemic; the organization must operate within the confines of its rules and regulations (Kaufman, 2019). Many non-profit organizations have been influenced by political and socio-economic forces to deliver research findings that favor the will of the funding agent at the expense of the virtues that govern the body.

Human rights protection

The epidemic evolves in a community and brings about many human rights-related issues. A significant focus that has continuously affected the code of conduct in much non-profit organization relates to discrimination based on the H.I.V. status. This widespread issue continues to manifest in the stigmatization where infected and affected people are seen as immoral by society. In New York State, the government institutions have come up with many campaigns to sensitize individuals on the necessity to respect and treat each other with respect and without stigmatization. SHSH should focus on coming up with a strategy to change the approach and help the State reduce the level of stigma.

The other issue of concern is making people understand their position in society and their rights. The Board of Directors must come up with an action plan for the rising cases where people have been noted to infect others deliberately. The form of crime that has continued to undermine the effort of stakeholders in the fight against the spread of the epidemic should be taken with a serious approach to making sure the culprits face the law. The focus of human rights protection also extended to the right to access medicine, i.e., A.R.V.s and multivitamins used by the HIV/AIDS infected population. The B.O.D should there focus on a strategy that ensures recorded people get their medications and counseling with ease.

Essential capacities and tools

The Board of Directors, through the chairman, must consider access to necessary information and material to the public through a meticulous program. The endorsement of a program that delivers essential information material necessitates mobilization of the entire workforce. At present, no central pool exists; hence it is increasingly complicated for the concerned people to access the available materials. Through the immobilization of funds and planning for training and workshops, the employees are equipped with the necessary knowledge and materials to provide adequate education to the general public (Leipziger, 2017). Arguably, internal awareness and raising elementary knowledge within SHSH help to delimit the quality and quantity of information available to the people.

In conclusion, the report is envisioned as a tool to stimulate mutual understanding of all dimensions of advocacy factoring, essential capacity and tools, human rights protection, and fostering partnership as a significant milestone to fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS. The report feeds the Board of Directors with prerequisite knowledge of the necessary tools for the following campaigns, which will help meet the threshold. The design of implementation and review of the SHSH AIDS program plans should continue to emphasize social, legal, economic, and cultural factors the exacerbate the spread of H.I.V. and worsen the impact of the epidemic in the society.  The overwhelming burden of the epidemic in New York State today is out of ignorance and drug abuse and prostitution. With the continued and heightened effort to educate the community, the organization, and the government and other bodies continue to fight against the vice.
