Social determinants of health
It is in the public domain that the distribution of resources which impact the life of the population is not a casual or random process. For instance, social determinants of health are some of the products which are directed and implemented by human action. These human actions are organized through intersectoral public policies meant to impact social determinants of
health. For instance, the public policies are directed towards impacting social determinants of health including improvement of living conditions, improvement of health outcomes, improving education, and addressing water sanitation issues among other issues. Additionally, the public policies are also designed to measure and monitor these social determinants of health before coming up with recommendations to address the technical, social and political elements of the public policies.
Honestly, i believe that the social determinants of health are not adequately addressed in the current public policies. The profound improvements in the social determinants of health in the past two decades are compromised by the recent public policy to legalize marijuana use in the country. I am concerned with the health and social impacts associated with this new public policy. There is no doubt that many students will drop out of school not to mention other negative impacts marijuana has on the society including addiction, violence, insecurity, and health issues. Generally, we are deemed to erase the progress we have made as a country in terms of social determinants of health if we continue to approve controversial and questionable public policies.
Second one
Public policy is key in providing a framework or structure of the social determinants of health. Public policy define our daily circumstances including how we live, work, age, and eventually die, which define our social determinants of health. Public policy will ensure there is effective and fair distribution of social determinants of health in different parts of the country depending on the needs and vulnerability of every community. Moreover, social and economic public policies will ensure there is implementation of effective social and economic programs which will satisfy the health, environmental, education, economic and employment needs of the country. Social and economic policies have the likelihood to control and prevent health inequalities by distributing social determinants of health to population which are needy and vulnerable.
I do not think that the current public policies have adequately addressed the social determinants of health. I believe the social and economic public policies have failed o address the social and economic issues of the northern indigenous communities in Canada. The public policies have never addressed the different issues including health issues, poverty, lack of clean water, lack of proper housing, education among other social determinant of health.
