Introduction
Social media is vital as a means of communication by many people. It makes communication easier hence increasing the productivity of the business.
Pros and Cons of using Social Media at the Work Place
Some of the pros of using social media in the workplace are; it ensures effective communication between the workers and the employer (Landers & Goldberg, 2014). The employees can air their views freely. Secondly, it makes the company known and its products can also be market. Online training of employees improves their efficiency (Bozarth, 2010). Recruitment of employees can also be carried out online. This can save the employer’s time and resources that could have been used if he was to call for an interview.
However there are some disadvantages on the same; employees can spend most of their time in social media at the expense of the company (Thompson & Connor, 2020). The use of social media at the workplace can also pose a risk of the company’s privacy. The company can sometimes run at a loss if the employees download information with viruses. It can be expensive to repair computers and laptops. There can be online cyberbullying for both employers and employees.
Although there are merits and demerits of using social media at the workplace both parties should ensure that the social media platforms are used for the benefits of the company. Every stakeholder should be responsible to get the maximum benefits.
