Social Relationships
The series money heist is a Spanish crime drama series developed by Alex Pina that contains depicts a lot of social interaction. The movie depicts both romantic relationships and prosocial behavior, as observed from the main characters. The movie series is about two robberies conducted in the Royal Mint of Spain and the Bank of Spain. In a social interaction context, the Professor (Alvaro Morte), the master plan of the heist, also plays an antagonist role as he restricts interaction or development of relationships in the heist. However, late in the movie series, the professor falls in love with Itziar Ituno, also known as Lisbon, who was initially the inspector of the National police force and later joined the gang in conducting the heist. As a result, the movie series is often compared to a telenovela movie series.
From a social psychologic point of view, the relationship between the professor and Lisbon can be categorized as a romantic one. It contains several factors of attraction, such as proximity and complementarity. Lisbon makes regular visits to a café near the police camp and meets the professor who disguises himself as another individual. Lisbon gets attracted to him as she often gets physically close to him; hence this is a factor of proximity (Wanis, 2015). Complementarity is observed when Lisbon gets attracted to the professor when she needed someone to talk to, and the professor literary became her listener. This case represented complementary personalities that lead to harmony between the two characters as the movie progresses. The type of love displayed by the two from a socio-psychological perspective is a consummate type of love. It commenced as a passion that led to intimacy, which later led to commitment (Watson, 2017).
Money Heist is full of prosocial behavior because members of the heist are often willing to help others. This is portrayed in the fourth season when the professor sets out a plan to rescue his lover Lisbon who was captured by her early members of the national police unit. The professor risks his life to help Lisbon without requesting for any rewards. Another scene is when Nairobi, one of the gang members, is shot and requires a surgical procedure to be carried out to save her life. Tokyo, one of the notable characters without any prior education of surgical procedures, does her best to save her friend’s life. This was the help she could offer to her friend without requesting anything in return but to save her life.
Social relationships may be influenced by situational factors that arise from their external environment and the people around them. Divorce is a situational factor that can influence social relations. For instance, after divorce, people will find new friends and partners, additionally children in such families develop a negative attitude towards marriage. Death is another situational factor that can cause individuals to distance themselves from others. Especially after the loss of people close to them. Cultural differences significantly impact social relationships among individuals. This because when people from different cultures interact their exchange cultures in terms of norms, values, beliefs, and even dressing codes. Thus, cultural differences may change the behavior of another individual and attitude towards other people’s cultures.
