How has sociology informed your understandings of COVID -19?
Sociology assumes the idea that person conduct can only be understood by individuals social life and their network of influences. On 11th March, COVID-19 threat was announced as an emergency by world health organization. Globally, there was a need for societies to change and live following the rules ad regulations such as restriction of transport (Lupton, 2020). Social policies are part of the mechanisms used in trying to curb the spread of the disease through understanding the social results of COVID-19.
There is a significant effect of labour market results as COVID-19 strikes the economy of different economic markets of various countries globally. If COVID-19 vaccine is not discovered, the world economy will be affected by the loss of jobs, while others applied the remote working which is not that effective, low income to those working as well as an increase of poverty in society. Besides, COVID-19 has led to direct effects such as pain which will also be felt in the longer run (Lupton, 2020). Losing jobs can have adverse effects on their future life due to persistent unemployment, employees will likely lose their experience. Besides, the rate of return to education will likely to rise, negatively affecting production output.
COVID-19 has led to the closure of many institutions of learning across the world; nearly 90% of learners have been affected. New strategies have been suggested to facilitate learning, example, UNESCO has suggested for learning programs through the radio and television programs for learners alongside other distance learning methods (Zaharah, Kirilova, & Windarti, 2020). For this reason, there has been increased usage of technology to facilitate distance learning as well as remote working for teachers and other tutors. Other social impacts of COVID-19 include: need to establish funds for emergency social response, the use of different state machinery to facilitate citizens compliance with the regulation of curbing COVID-19, reduction the level of environmental pollutions.
