Currently, the world is shifting from the use of non-renewable sources of energy to the use of renewable sources of energy. One of the most used renewable sources of energy is solar energy. Solar energy is the conversion of radiations from the sun into heat or electrical energy. The use of solar power comes with many advantages: environmental conservation, safe and cheaper in the long run.

Solar energy is environmentally friendly, making it safe for consumption. This source of power does not emit dangerous atmospheric gases like carbon (iv) oxide or Sulphur (iv) oxide, which are poisonous to the environment. As a result, the use of solar energy is likely to reduce the possibility of global warming and climatic change.

Similarly, this source of energy is renewable, making it to be cheap to operate. Radiation from the sun is abundant and making it readily available. Besides, solar panels perform a photovoltaic process without the use of fuel. Moreover, the use of solar radiation does not deplete the existing natural resources.

Besides the advantages of using solar energy, there are some short comes. The limitations to the use of this clean energy include; expensive to install, occupy considerable space, and weather dependent. These disadvantages are likely to reduce the efficiency of the use of solar energy.

The initial capital of installing solar energy is usually high in comparison with other sources of energy. One has to buy the solar panel, batteries, and some transmission equipment like wire. The inability of some households to raise this installation capital may minimize the use of solar energy.

Solar panel installation also occupies a lot of space. For maximum attraction of sunlight, one must spread in an open space. This spread is unfavorable for small compounds or limited spaces.

Solar energy also majorly depends on weather conditions. The weather must be sunny and not cloudy or rainy. In the case of dark or bright weather conditions, the panels are likely to produce less energy.

Despite the advantages, solar energy is favorable than other sources of energy. Through innovations, it is easy to solve the disadvantages. However, the benefits are outstanding.
