Spiritual Care
Spiritual care refers to the concern that meets the needs of a person spiritually or religiously when it comes to dealing with traumas, illness, or sadness, and it does so by assisting them to heal emotionally or physically. The spiritual care also includes the responsibility for expressing oneself, care for supporting their faith, care for self-worth, and care for sensitive concerns from people. This spiritual care provides a kind of therapy that helps an individual improve their affected wellbeing. Through positive religious beliefs, a person gains comfort and thus helps in making them strong in times of trauma, illness, or any difficulty. Religious elements such as prayer, meditation, and faith in working prayers, people tend to improve their performance and spiritual wellbeing, which gives them strength and comfort in times of difficulty contributing to their wellbeing. Therefore, providing care in terms of assisting in such religious services would improve the welfare of a person just like spiritual care in nursing. Besides, other activities such as medical treatments aim at reducing suffering and improving the wellbeing of a person (Stranahan, 2001).
Offering spiritual care to me would mean to determine the spiritual aspects perceived by the individual, having that they differ across different cultures. This means giving the individual the freedom to express their spiritual beliefs during suffering moments as a sign of showing compassion and support. Again listening to the religious expression would help in knowing the beliefs of a person, which then may give information on the root cause of the trauma or illness hence giving appropriate treatment or solution. Similarly, the readings talk about spiritual care in nursing that involves assessing the spiritual themes of a patient, which would help in revealing the patient’s source of suffering. With such information, nurses can incorporate the patient’s spiritual resources to provide them with prevention measures and avoid such sufferings hence advancing the preventive care at large (Ramezani, 2014).
Spiritual care gives people, and patients hope for a better future life. The hope package comes with understanding and tolerating different beliefs, giving strength, love, and comfort. It also includes understanding the role of the patient’s beliefs in their suffering and how faith in such ideas offers mental therapy. Similarly, in the reading, spiritual care involves an aspect of giving hope to the patients by comforting them and understanding the importance of spiritual beliefs in medicine even though some tend to interrupt the medical procedures. Providing spiritual care gives a sense of the meaning of life and hope regardless of continuous suffering in life (Ramezani, 2014). In conclusion, determining the spiritual or religious beliefs of a person is the key to offering spiritual care towards advancing their physical and emotional wellbeing. This can only be done by showing compassion and sensitivity in cultural diversity, thus providing great relief to trauma/illness, just like nursing spiritual care does.
