Spirituality Worldview
Every human being has a set of assumption about what religion is and how life is perceived. As a nurse, I have different view about spirituality where the belief of individuals should be respected and included as part of the care given. Spirituality guides ethics in nursing practice and assumes that for one to act godly, ethics should be maintained and all patients should be treated fairly and equally. As a nurse, I understand that patients’ religion can have significant impact on the care provided. Therefore, it is important for all healthcare providers to have culturally diverse knowledge that will allow them to provide individualized and patient-centered care.
I believe that my conception of spirituality can affect the care I give to patients because I respect spirituality; thus I offer individualized care to meet the needs of all patients. The fact that all individuals have different views of spirituality, the care is given to one individual may not be meaningful to the other, and it is important for all nurses to consider the different perceptions when giving care. Besides, my assumptions about what spirituality is and the impact it has on different individuals allow better selection of a nursing theory that guides my practice as a nurse. Although not all people respect religion, all individuals have their view and what they believe to be spiritual satisfaction. It can be the physical, emotional or social aspect that makes them spiritually satisfied. As a nurse, meeting the needs of different patients can be hectic although that is the expectation of all nurses and healthcare professionals during care.
