Stakeholder analysis
Based on the project description, there exists a need for a project manager in the project. The project manager should, however, have a wide range of skills that enables him not only to explain the vision of the project but also to let him or her understand how to manage the project dynamics. In addition to this, the project manager as well carries out the monitoring of the entire activities happening throughout the project cycle. Melisa Grant, therefore, will be taking the role of a project manager throughout this case. Her expertise in the field of business analysis will be essential in evaluating the viability of each business idea the institution wishes to venture into.
Additionally, knowledge of quality assurance is essential in evaluating the quality of products produced by the company. Therefore, as the project manager, she will be in a position to offer guidelines on issues affecting the business and the requirements of each product produced. The project manager is also assigned the role of managing the risk that may affect the success of the project. The background knowledge in both construction and engineering as well as the six years of experience will as well enable the project manager to understand the reports presented on the implementation process. Additionally, they will be involved in the management of finances to ensure no resources are overspent one activity.
The project manager has a strong influence as well as high interest in the project since she forms part of the key stakeholder. She should, therefore, be updated frequently on the project activities. The project manager should keep all the other stakeholders posted during meetings, through memos or even through emails. The project manager will, therefore, have the responsibility to sort the information to be communicated to each stakeholder.
Jim, on the other role, will be providing both visions for the project and also part of the resources to be used throughout the implementation process. He will fall under the same category of stakeholders with the critical project manager. Jim’s interest and also influence on the project is high. He will thereby be in charge of input that translates into the expected results. He will be most engaging in two-way communication with the project manager through meetings and emails.
The project will also have a committee referred to as operations steering committee. The committee will be composed of Jerry Lawson. He is an expert in business management, information technology as well as project management and with six years of experience in the field. The second member of the team will be Sarah Jenkins. She is an expert in procurement and has both educational and field experience for four years in procurement and acquisition experience electrical engineering. Lastly, Mike Green will also form part of the operating steering committee. Earlier before joining the company, Green worked under the department of public relations and marketing as a technician. In addition to this, Green is also experienced in testing and electrical work. Based on educational background, Green is an expert in marketing, electrical engineering and finally a degree in information technology management. Green has worked for the company for the last five years. The operations steering team will be providing advice on critical issues throughout the project life cycle on their various areas of experts. The whole team will fall under the internal stakeholder’s type; therefore, internal meetings will be conducted. They will be provided with general information concerning the project during the session. They are primary stakeholders with high interest and also a significant influence on the project. Therefore, their central role will be to make recommendations of solutions on problems experienced in the course of project implementation. The communication, in this case, will be two-way.
Investors will also form part of the stakeholder. They will invest their resources in terms of money or even machinery to the project with the hope that they will gain benefits in return. The investors are primary stakeholders with significant influence and interest in the project. They provide support and monitor the project implementation project without direct involvement in management. Their frequency of contact is low, and they consider the viability of an idea before opting to invest in it. They will be provided with an overview of the progress of the project during online or physical meetings or even updated via email.
Customers who are going to be consumers of the goods and services fall under the category of primary stakeholders. Their influence on the project is medium. On the other hand, the interest in the project is low. They as well have neutral feeling towards the project in that they are neither supportive nor against the project. They decide to be part of the project upon its completion. The customers fall under the category of external stakeholders. Customers provide feedback on social media platforms.
The surrounding community who will be interacting project team also form part of the secondary stakeholders. They have a profound influence as well as low interest on the project with a neutral impact. The community members can attend meetings concerning plans based on the decision made through informed consent and not coercion.
