Statement of purpose describing career and education
To me, leadership has always been about people after serving in a military unit for about ten years. I never sought to have my leadership skills enhanced until I discovered my passion for working with people and team towards accomplishing a common goal. My experience in military leadership, which included a delegation of duties and leading an army into military work, is how I found out that I have an innate desire to develop people and enable them to become objective achievers. While in the military services, I have participated in the recruitment process. Throughout one particular summer, I watched recruits from different backgrounds with various personalities accomplish tasks and grow into the best team members I have has a pleasure to know. I receive late-night phone calls from a few who need advice, and I have the honor to work with some of them in my recent major military missions.
My passion for being a successful leader is intense such that I work for many hours to make sure my team success in operations. I never feel tired of making time for individuals. As I continued with my work, I have been proud of what or how teammates who look up to me have become. I feel I have the ability to build cohesiveness in a team with a different world view and experiences. I have an unmatched energy level when I get passionate about my work. Usually, I am hardworking, especially when I know that the results will benefit more than just myself. To lead and provide a team or individuals provide me with constant energy since watching people push outside the comfort zones and grow professionally is incredibly rewarding.
I wish to pursue this program to educate myself as a leader in the cooperate world. The MAOL program is the best fit for me and beneficial in several ways. First, I will be well equipped to lead and serve people professionally. For most leaders, the goal is always to make a difference and make a change in particular environments, whether for-profit or non-profit corporations. To grow in leadership training will empower me to meet the needs of a community I will be working in and help those around. In fields like planning, administration, operation, or human resource, I wish to follow my passion for empowering others in their work. Second, the program will teach me ways to enhance team relationships- an essential factor in a leadership position. I will add overall value to an organization through gaining experience and skills to identify and grow a positive culture. The MAOL degree will help develop skill sets to set me up for success. The other benefit of taking this leadership training program is equipping me with the ability to apply leadership theories in the real world.
Leadership is about dealing with people. For this, I must be prepared and armed with vital skills to relate to individuals from diverse backgrounds. I chose to take my leadership program at Louisiana State University (LSU) because it is an institution that values and acknowledges diversity. From this, I will have a chance to explore and strengthen my leadership qualities within a diversity sensitive community. I hope to take all that I will learn in the MAOL program into the world with confidence.
