Stigma
English
Stigma is the negative discrimination against someone on the grounds of diverse conditions such as health problems, mental illness, or even social status. Treating someone negative due to their mental illness is referred to as discrimination. The stigma associated with mental illness takes place when someone defines you about their illness rather than who they are as a person. For example, one might be labeled as ‘Autistic’ instead of a person suffering from autism. Mental illnesses worsen when coupled with stigma and discrimination hence making it hard for them to recover. It may make the victim avoid getting the help they required due to fear of being stigmatized. Every person has a role to play to create a mentally healthy community, one that is inclusive, that does not allow discrimination and that aid discovery.
