The Relationship between Academic and Professional Integrity
Integrity refers to the full compliance with code of conduct, set morals, academic values, and the ability to resist corruption (Dutelle & Taylor, 2017). Just like other aspects of life, academics demands that a student should be true to self and to the course as job market requires a genuinely qualified person. Therefore, the need to practice honesty in academic writing is of high significance. To ensure complete compliance with Walden University policies, the institution insists on the use of grammarly and SafeAssign software. The ultimate goal of this section is to investigate the connection between the practice of integrity in academic writing and eventual practice in professional occupation.
Relationship between Academic Integrity and Writing
Academic integrity demands that due credit should be given to the rightful owner or author of any academic source used in writing through appropriate citation and quotations (Sutherland-Smith, 2016). Failure to acknowledge the author of an academic resource may result into difficulty in the process of exchanging ideas and research. While studying at Walden University, one should respect and acknowledge the academic works of others as they are the rightful owners of their ideas and projects. To prevent, plagiarism, it is recommended that academic writing should follow appropriate citation of sources. Plagiarism is the false ownership of other people’s academic works, thoughts and ideas (Alam, Ratner, & Coleman, 2019). Research involves the analysis of past research studies to ascertain the research gap and to borrow ideas; therefore, proper citation is required to acknowledge the researchers and avoid academic fraud.
Relationship between Scholarly Ethics and Professional Integrity
Nurses face different medical situations everyday in their practice; in the process, various decisions have to be made which calls for the consideration of personal character and morality. Furthermore, professional ethics entails the protection of patients’ details and medical statuses. Professionalism goes beyond performing assigned duties; it encompasses the awareness of one’s environment and the expectations of the society. Nurses are respected by their patients hence they must uphold important values and empathy. A strong ethical background contributes to a successful nursing career built on strong professional integrity (Salmela, Koskinen & Eriksson, 2017).
Contribution of Grammarly, Safe Assign, and paraphrasing to Academic Integrity
Academic writing entails various steps ranging from academic research to review of literature and correction of grammatical errors to come up with understandable and standard academic work. Therefore, there are various academic tools at the disposal of a writer which include grammarly, SafeAssign and paraphrasing. Paraphrasing refers to the process of re-writing another person’s idea in your own way (Hyland, 2018); it is recommended that the original author should still be acknowledged through citation. SafeAssign is used to check the rate of similarity between one’s work and the past studies to ascertain its originality. Grammarly is an academic tool that helps in proofreading and checking grammatical errors. All the above tools have significant contribution in avoidance of plagiarism is the scholarly field.

Maintaining Professional Ethics and Integrity
Ethics education has a significant contribution to the ethical awareness and morality in nursing practice; such education can be provided through the conception of a unit in the nursing program. A person’s integrity refers to the completeness of their desirable characters built on a strong background of deep reflection and judgment (Peterson & Seligman, 2004). To maintain professional ethics, a nurse should follow the organization’s policies, be honest, and provide satisfactory care and treatment to patients and professional relation with colleagues.
Maintaining Academic Ethics and Integrity
Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) involves extensive research and scholarly writing; hence originality and grammar are of significant essence. Therefore, SafeAssign and Grammarly are crucial tools in this course. Furthermore, various guidelines have been provided by the American Psychological Association to enhance the quality and standard of scholarly writing (APA, 2010). Also, the guidelines and rules provided by APA enhance protection of the rights of an original author.
Conclusion
Ethics control the way people behave in society; thus they create a standard way of living. Academic and professional life is not an exemption since one has to comply with certain moral values and uphold honesty and integrity. Nursing is a respected profession which requires practitioners to embrace socially-desirable values and a significant level of empathy towards patients.
