Strengths
Medicaid research has made different discoveries about how different states cope with Medicaid programs. Medicaid was started by the federal government (Conti, 2013). Medicaid was stated to help low-income people to access medical services. This study focuses on how Medicaid has improved the lives of people who have diabetes. According to the study, healthcare personnel, policymakers, and other stakeholders have been made aware that Medicaid’s introduction has not fulfilled its objective yet. With such knowledge, the study plays a big role in calling for reforms of the health programs that have been put in place.
Weaknesses
This case study also has weaknesses that fail to make it enough to call for reforms or the Medicaid program’s dissolvent. One of the shortcomings of the study is that its data only focused on one group of patients. The study solely focused on diabetes patients basing on the fact that diabetic patients also need to be hospitalized because they develop different diseases related to diabetes (Conti 2013). This sample of the study is not enough to conclude the status of the Medicaid program.
Opportunities
Since the sample size is the major limitation that the study has, the study can broaden its sample size and focus on data from more inpatient cases. There are different places one can get hospital data, yet this research only focused on using National Inpatient Sample data. Therefore, the study can take up the opportunity to do more scrutiny on data provided by other organizations concerning different inpatient cases to develop more credible results.
Threats
The research’s major threat is getting willing stakeholders that are ready to share their data. Some organizations are stringent on releasing patients’ information to people, even researchers. Therefore the researchers will not be able to get their eyes on the data they need to come up with accurate conclusions.
