Stress Factors in America
The main aim of looking at an American’s stress levels is to bring about mental health improvement. Moreover, the social work industry has a mandate to solve various mental problems experienced within the community setting due to the economy, mass shootings, and terrorism (Morgan, 2017). Not only does therapeutic intervention help the affected members enhance communication but also make a healthier home environment. Therefore, various approaches can be used to reduce and manage anxiety among people. There is a lot of mental stress today, but some additional stress factors are vital in finding ways to manage stress levels.
I must admit that gun violence or mass shootings add additional stress compared to terrorism and economic distress. According to Lankford (2016), gun violence results in tens of thousands of deaths in the United States annually. Further reports reveal that the United States has the highest homicide rates as a result of gun violence. Every time that I walk around the city, I am always worried about my surroundings. There is a need to be more cautious to avoid dangerous shooters who target masses randomly. There is around one mass shooting in America each day. The burden of all these shootings falls on families, communities, and friends. In that sense, indirect costs lead to expensive medical care, hopelessness, and eventually, PTSD. It is the role of community members to work hand in hand with social workers to ensure that their mental health is prioritized. All in all, the gun problem in the United States should be addressed before things get worse.
