Students Responsibility in order to Succeed
Students must take responsibility for their learning for them to succeed in education. The average person speaks between 120-150 words per minute (Bernard, 20180. With this rate of speaking, it obvious students would need a smart way of taking notes. After listening skills the second most important skill will be notes taking (College success, 2015).Note-taking and making entails writing the most important notes or summary
There are different notes taking strategies and I would pick the outline method. The reason for picking this method is because it easy to apply. It allows material prioritization. The main ideas are noted down on the left side of the page. Elaborative ideas to the main concept are indented afterward. Details about the subordinate ideas are indented. Ideas and thoughts are organized very well. It is easy to tell the main topic and subtopic. Other advantages of using the outline method include;
- Helps in the formulation of an ultimate study guide
- Helps to determine your material understanding
- Determination of the intended importance by the instructor
- Noting down key ideas assists in remembering the material better
- Ability to listen is enhanced
- It becomes easy and fast when one is revising
Important information is written on the left side of the page and the subordinate information is indented, then details in bulletin points. The outline method is applicable in the real world, for
in meetings and seminars.
The outlining method plays a big role in student’s it becomes easy and fast when one is revising education. This method allows revisits my notes any minute to remind myself of what I learned in the past weeks. The outlining method emphasizes content and relationships between the study materials. This method reduces the editing and allows easy access for review.
List method is used when: (College success, 2015)
- Mostly used by students lacking knowledge of other effective note-taking methods use this as a fallback.
Cornell method can best be applied in mathematics subjects (College success, 2015).
- It has a left and right column
- The left column is known as cue or recall and usually a third of the page or less.
- Two thirds or less of the page is utilized by the right column where notes can be taken using concept maps, lists, or outline methods of note-taking or all of them combined.
Concept maps, (College success, 2015).
- It is designed by placing a central idea at the center of a page
- New ideas are added by the addition of new circles and lines on the same page
- Lines and arrows are used to connect different ideas
The above three methods are great as well but I believe for me, it would be easy to adjust to outlining than using the other three methods.
