Annotated Bibliography
Stress is the emotional or mental strain of an individual due to various harsh, demanding circumstances. Some of the reasons that people experience stress are due to the different environments they are, their personalities, expectations from other people, and many more. Putting in mind the effects it has on different kinds of people, it should be an issue that is looked into by any government across the world.
Clemmitt, M. (2009). 9 Students Under Stress. Issues in K-12 education: Selections from CQ researcher, 183.
In this paper, student stress has been clearly looked into by the author, Clemmitt, whereby her book, Students under stress, clearly explains different ways that students undergo stress in their school work. She talks about Allison, Nancy’s daughter, who complained about school every day by stating that she hates school.
Nancy explains it best by saying that her daughter’s social life was affected due to lots of homework whereby attending family gatherings, meeting up with friends, or any other social activity wholly depended on whether she had assignments to do. She further explains how once she stepped her first foot in the house and the only thing she has to talk about is the assignments given, which is emotional stress, that she can’t think about anything else freely without putting assignments and homework’s in place. She is seen to be disturbed, and because it is essential to do the school work, she is under pressure. This makes students stress my problem statement. Putting in mind the effects of excessive home works to students; the issue needs to be addressed.
Following that, my hypothetical thesis has got proposed solutions to at least curb the problem amongst students home works. Some of them could be being positive and seeing the positive side, whereby they are able to majorly focus on the positive side of the coin by seeing the advantages of home works and studies. Counseling, too, from the institutions they are learning is a clear sign of true support, which helps students get guidance and stop hating school. Another proposed solution could be laughing; just as they say it, laughter is the best medicine, it is an honest answer because they are able to let go of any pain and pressure they could be feeling. Support from parents is also essential since they are the closest people relating to their children; parents guide them through and are able to withstand school pressures.
In the book, the author continues to explain how home works give students more pressure to be in school, and this highly affects their effective learning sessions. I will use the reference to address the main issues that students undergo when they are given a lot of assignments; they can’t handle in the name of making them perform well. As seen in the book, the author addresses issues like dim love for learning experienced by children, whereby they have no zeal to continue learning. In addition, piles of assignments affect the sleep routine whereby they have to be awake most of the time so as to do the home works, which affects the productivity of the students in school. All these are some of the problems the book clearly highlights and discusses so as to show us the effects excessive work scheduled at school could be.
As seen in the book, there are different solutions that the character has shown and are helping in one way or another. Nancy is seen to follow-up on the daughter’s schoolwork, whereby she talks about how she thought that a “reasonable amount” of work had been piled up on the desks of the daughter. Nancy is a supportive parent, whereby she opts to protest against students being overworked in school work. The book has discussed and explained what most students couldn’t, It is a good startup for every school institution to look into the matter and look for ways that they can employ so as to curb the problem, which includes counseling of the students since they need guidance. The book fully supports students who go through a lot of classwork since it addresses the issues that they go through in the classrooms since most people feel that it is not an important area to address; because they feel that students should be given lots of works to perform which has massive effects.
