Summary of labour and legality- Chapter six
Chapter six of labour and legality by Ruth Gomberg-Munoz talks about identity, self-esteem and dignity among the Mexican immigrant workers in the USA. The chapter introduces the reader to two categories of workers in the states, some of whom are described as hard workers. In contrast, the second category is considered to be lazy and uneducated. The hard-working immigrants are always praised by the managers while the later is always disrespected and more vulnerable. Ruth illustrates an irony in the payment in consideration to the amount of worked done by the hardworking immigrants. The boys, however, show some satisfaction in their jobs and the salary attached. They find it more sensible to work in the restaurant rather than doing leatherwork which is limited back in Mexico. Out of desperation, the boys confess that they don’t care about their status in the country since they are comfortable with the opportunity they have found in the country.
