CST 1011 Survey of the Old Testament Worksheet: Teachers Academy
Among the challenges students of the Old Testament face is understanding Israel’s wisdom tradition. The purpose of this exercise is to involve the student the wisdom tradition. The training consists of three parts.
Part 1 Contemplative Wisdom
Contemplative wisdom is not merely about a belief in our heads, but a form of practice that is more like learning to ride a bicycle than anything else. You cannot learn bicycle riding by reading about it in books or going to hear a lecture on bicycle riding. You must climb on and ride the bike to experience it for yourself. You must practice it to embody it. Contemplative wisdom is the same. You must represent meditative practice in your being as a form of intelligence.
Under the heading, “The Words of the Teacher” list several things you encountered in the class that was interesting, intriguing, worth considering, or challenging.
- “The Words of the Teacher”
The Old Testament Narratives
Three types of Biblical Law
Deuteronomy 6
Bible stories of the past such as those about Samuel, Saul, David, Solomon, and Samson
- Explain briefly why you listed the
I listed the items because they teach about the different types of laws, both the mosaic and regulations related to the teachings of Jesus.
Part 2 Proverbial Wisdom
The process of collecting, reproducing, and passing on wisdom should:
- Afford the student with an appreciation of Proverbial wisdom
- Increase student awareness of the kind of informal moral and social education that takes place in everyday life
- Facilitate students to recognize their role as custodians of tradition and preservers of common
Students are to imagine themselves as scribes in Israel’s royal court. Authors were literate individuals who wrote down things, including wise saying, remember things, and pass wise sayings or bits of advice.
- Write out a piece of advice an elder (parent, grandparent, older sibling, friend, or neighbor) gave you before you came to
Before coming to college, my parents advised me to be careful and serious about my studies. They urged me not to lose focus on things such as alcoholism and drugs.
- Write out a piece of advice you would pass on to someone considering attending
The piece of advice that I would like to pass to anyone joining the college is that they should be very focused on education and not lose focus on their knowledge. College comes with a lot of challenges, and one should, therefore, say aware of these.
Part 3 Synthesis
- Compare and contrast the views of wisdom expressed in Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 and Proverb 1:1-7.
The one thing that is common among the two verses is the fear of the lord as the source of wisdom. However, according to Ecclesiastes 12:13-14, the element of understanding talked about is our responsibility as humanity. We are, therefore, commanded by God to do so. On the other hand, wisdom on the perspective of Solomon is light for the world, and God instructs us to gain wisdom through listening to His instructions that he is giving us. It is, according to this verse, a prudent thing.
- Suppose you are a parent trying to determine where to put your child in school. Would you send your child to “Proverbial Wisdom School” or to Contemplative Wisdom Academy”? Explain your
As a parent I would admit my child to the Proverbial Wisdom School, This is because the form of education offered by the school provides students with knowledge and wisdom for awareness of both the formal and the informal morals of life that do occur each day. As such, it is more beneficial to the students and will prepare my child for all aspects of life. This will make him or her an all-rounded adult.
