Sustainability Initiative
Red-bag waste reduction initiative is the best way of serving a healthy environment. All employees, patients, board members within St. Joseph Hospital and the Paterson community leaders are responsible for the success of the project. Partnerships with Infection Control department, Housekeeping or Environmental Services, Hazardous Materials Management, Safety, and Risk Management departments from other hospitals and waste management agencies will help make strategies for red waste reduction. St. Joseph Hospital will offer education to staff and patients on the importance of red waste management after the project is done. There will also be an open suggestion box for the patients, their family members, and friends to help improve and make the project a success.

“What is your main worry when you go to a hospital, the health of your friends and family? Do you accept exceptional diagnosis? How will your finance and insurance cover affect your care plan in the future? The waste in the hospital and the waste bags management are likely to be the last things you may think of. However, with hospital waste, the sustainability of health care is a public concern.
Everyone is aware that healthcare can be a confusing undertaking, as clinics generate about million tons of waste per year for incineration, landfills, or other treatment alternatives that are harmful to the environment. The probably not so clear is that different waste streams from healthcare can be expensive, as the regular medical clinic spends a lot of money on waste dumping every year. We must, therefore, join hands and make the red-bag waste green. ”

So let’s build a sustainable Healthcare system.
#RED_BAG_REDUCTION. When wastes are transported to the waste stream, force, power, or energy is employed for waste transportation to its last disposition. If land filled with waste, a gas (methane) is formed by the decomposition of organic waste in little oxygen. Methane is almost seven times more powerful as a GHG compared to CO2. If wasted are burnt, N2O and CO2 are key GHGs released.
#Waste_out # #RED_BAG_REDUCTION. Creating a zero waste management program together with heating changes in material patterns of consumption, means the amount of a health care facility can decrease and handle its waste. Let’s join hands and support this initiative. Together we stand
