Sustainable development

Sustainable development is a common phrase talked about all over the world from time to time to underline ideal future vision and modern world problems being tackled by inhabitants. The sustainable development goals to transform the world including but not limited to gender equality, good health and well-being, quality education, clean water and sanitation, and affordable and clean energy. These SDGs are just a few that highlight accurately the issues the world is committed to eradicating. According to Bali Swain & Yang-Wallentin (2019), many people view it as an abstract, unattainable concept typically by considering devastating images of over polluted environment or desperateness of being born a woman, due to comprehensive nature of sustainable development and the complex situation it is focused to solve. People can live a more conscious and altruistic life in the current environment by understanding this field and its challenge which is very important and forms the basis of this essay.

Fundamentally, modern society has planned for indefinite future progress by laying out a long-term solution referred to as sustainable development, without causing damage to the environment and providing a safe habitat for next generations who will endeavor in developing societies, economies and protect the environment with the same ideals. It fulfills people’s needs without damaging the opportunities of others. The concept is important in people’s lives since it affects every aspect of their lives and covers an extensive scope of issues like social, environmental, and economic development (Bali Swain & Yang-Wallentin, 2019). The sustainable development goals and targets have been established the United Nations as strategies for future and optimum conscious development. Nevertheless, the UN set out SDGs in 2015 which are top-notch strategies, however, their attainment is not practical in modern society of corruption, violence, and large wealth inequality of developed and developing nations. People only hope they will stop being strategies and guidelines and turn to be a reality.

As implied by Slaper (2019), the three sustainability aspects of social, economic, and environment can be addressed by organizations that have certified management systems in quality, environment occupational health, and safety which play a crucial role in the advancement of sustainable development. The triple bottom line is an accounting framework that measures and evaluates the health and quality of business using the power of three which are people, profit, and the planet. The concept has grown to a plethora of responsible and operational organization models like return on social investment which leads to sharing and circular economies. The three bottom line concept is crucial in the growth sustainability sector of the UN’s sustainable development goals which forecast to provide market opportunities and general emergence of corporate social responsibility reporting culture.

Sustainable development is very important with the rapid population growth which implies more resources will be needed to satisfy it and, unluckily, the beneficial resources are not all renewable. With industries investing more in technologies highly depending on rare earth metals which slowly disappear can make it impossible to function for a long period. Consequently, the tech industry needs new innovations and alternatives which are important to sustainable development to secure steady development without depending on exhaustible materials. On the other hand, after examining the importance of sustainable development, it is essential to understand it requires combined effort and has many challenges. Despite the developing and developed nations dealing with different sides of the spectrum, it is essential to note that sustainable development is equally valid. Countries face a lack of financial resources to implement and plan sustainable development mostly poor African nations. War-torn nations like Syria, sustainable development is not possible since they have other priorities on hand. Also, natural resources like tsunamis and earthquakes in India, Japan, and the US pose a threat to different elements of infrastructure.
