Technologies to WAN payroll system
The implementation of the client-server architecture is dependent on various techniques, including network technologies which provide a groundwork for data transmission. All devices in the system have to be connected for communication. At each of the organization offices, a thin client is needed for the client for the employees to provide input and for the data to be transmitted to a network switch which routes the information to its destination. A customer Edge Router will be a necessary technology placed at organisation’s office’s premises across the country which is then connected to the Provider Edge Router in MPLS/IP network which then routes the traffic to the Data Centre which then sends it to the servers in the headquarters
2-layer access switch
This is a type of network switch that works on the data link layer and uses mac addresses to determine the route through which the received information should be forwarded. The device uses a hardware-based switching technique to establish a connection and transmit data to its destination in the local area network. In the payroll system, the 2-layer switch will be responsible for transporting data from the various offices in a different location and performing an error check before transmitting the data. The 2-layer switch will automatically copy the MAC address of each frame received from the offices and maintaining the Mac address forward the data to the destination which in this case will be the data centre in organizations headquarters.
Internet
WAN Payroll system is founded on internet connection since it depends on the connection in promoting the integration of various offices to the data centre. Since this is a large organisation with many offices, a high-speed fifth generation internet connectivity will be utilized. This will ensure that there is a timely and speedy transfer of information from the data centre to offices in different locations and vice versa.
Ethical issues
Acquiring or updating an organization payroll system is an excellent step to ensuring timely, efficient and accurate payments to employees. However, there a numerous moral question that arises from a new payroll system. A new system brings changes to the organization and not all employees are welcome to changes, and they might feel violated. The new system may introduce change in the manner of payment form hourly to weekly, which may not resonate well with employees who are used to hourly payments. The ethical issue may be exacerbated if the employee’s opinions were not put into consideration when implementing the new system.
In most cases, the introduction of a modern and improved payroll system in an organization replaces the roles of some employees who were handling the payment manually or using simple systems. Downsizing on the number of employees and replacing them with the system raises an ethical question on organization commitment to the warfare of employees. Moreover, the employees might feel disillusioned and disappointed with the organization and the system itself, which might lead to low performance due to the uncertainty in job security.
One of the primary ethical concern of the new payroll system is the privacy and confidentiality of the information on employee’s payroll. The employee payroll is supposed to be confidential, but a new system might not have the necessary security measures, thus exposing classified information to users. Moreover, if the system has no robust security features, it is more likely to be subjected to manipulation by either the administrators or the employees, which is both unethical and illegal.
