The 9-11 Attacks

Causes of the Al Qaeda attacks

The 9-11 attack on the United States depicted a clearly, and well-crafted plan rolled out intending to attain master success. The idea was built on a belief system that the United States of America was not as strong as other states around it thought it. The Islamic militant group (al-Qaeda) group leader Osama bin Laden intended to expose to the world this belief. The belief was intimated by Abu Walid al-Masri, an Egyptian who was a close associate of the leader.

The build-up to the attack based on several failed missions of the United States on different battlefronts. First, the bombing of the marines in Beirut led to the death of several deaths of the American troupes and subsequent retreat from Lebanon. This specific attack made bin Laden intensify his belief that America was a paper tiger (Ilardi, 2009). In other evidence, the death of 18 American servicemen on Somali soil in Mogadishu and withdrawal of the troupes Vietnam in the 1970s was enough evidence.

On the other hand, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed had a plan to blow several American planes in Asia but failed numerously. However, his pursuit never faded, and therefore contributing to bin Laden’s masterplan would yield his satisfaction. Having set the ball rolling, al- Qaeda provided money, training and other logistical support to the executors of the plan. The ultimate aim was to ensure they bring down the ultimate far enemy and bring home new dawn and change in the Middle East.

Impact of the 9/11 attack

Following the attack, there has been a number of effects that have run from then going into the future. Immediately following the attack, the economy of the United States had an adverse impact. Many Wall streets were evacuated following the attack, for instance, the New York Stock Exchange. It was estimated that on the first day of trade, the market dropped by about 7.1%. In the consequent, more than 143,000 jobs were lost immediately, meaning about $2.8 billion was up in the air. Greatest of all, the impacts were felt on air transport, where about 60% of the job losses were felt. It is also estimated that about $60 billion worth of property was damaged. On the other hand, clean the debris consumed about $750 million.

I addition, the government was a pain to compensate the victims and the families of those who fell following the attack. From 2001 to 2004, over 7 billion was spent on paying the families where over 2,680 people were injured. Another sector heavily impacted was the tourism department where losses of up to $25 billion were encountered, and more than 3, 000 jobs were lost (“September 11 Attacks: Facts, Background & Impact – HISTORY,” n.d.). Most of the hotels recorded a 40% reduction in occupancy, and most of the employees who retained their jobs were disturbed by distress.

The insurance business also lost in excesses of $11 billion in terms of business interruption and more than $9.6 billion in terms of the property with $7.5 billion going to liability. There were glaring gaps in the security system that were exposed, and this made the United States vulnerable to future attacks. There was a need for the United States to swing into action and seal the remaining loops and relook the security policy.
