The ancient Greeks
The ancient Greeks were the people who brought about civilisation in western countries. Due to their ability to think, great culture, political potential and social prowess, they instilled a lot to western people. To put this into perspective, discussing cultural, political and social heritage that Europe and the USA gained from Greeks during the Hellenization of the western world will provide an in-depth understanding of the subject.
Hellenistic period was marked by increased influence of culture and power of politics was at its peak. Greeks had a culture which was very sound and they were passionate about everything. Their ways of language, religion and traditions tell it all. The vibrancy of their culture left a mark to western countries during the time of civilisation (Mitchell, 2017). The major characteristic of the Greek culture was that their heritage outperformed all other cultures at the time. This was the reason why Western countries adopted it easily. The beliefs, ethical values, systems of belief, traditions and all the artifacts that are experienced in Europe and USA today were all copied and adopted from the Greeks.
Politics of Greece was also very vibrant. They had wide structures of governance put in place. They had common systems and one of them was democratic. This defines the rule by the people. They also had a constitution which would be followed by their people (Cavarnos, 2016). The, main characteristic of the Greek politics was that everyone was equal before law and discrimination was not tolerated. Today, Europe and USA systems of governance follow so closely those of Greeks thus they really aided in what these countries are today.
Social heritage of the Greeks comprised social classes (Mitchell, 2017). The structure had four main classes; Upper class, Middle class, lower class and slave class. Today, all these classes exist in Europe and USA a true manifestation that most of it was borrowed from the Greeks.
In conclusion, Western Countries are what they are today because of civilization by the Greeks. This is because culture, Politics, and social statuses were adopted and copied from the Greeks.
