The book “I Stand Here Ironing.”
Hello everyone,
I loved reading the book “I Stand Here Ironing.” women are essential in their children’s upbringing, and in the reading, the mother is worried that she did not accord her first child the best mother-care. Mothers who are poor and single-handedly raise their children have a hard time since they must multi-task. They must go to work to earn a decent living, and at the same time, they must spend a lot of time with their children. In most cases, they spend most of their time working, and when they get home, instead of taking care of their children, they sleep due to fatigue. The husband had fled due to poverty, which made the woman undergo a lot of hardships in raising her child. The story is relevant to the feminist movement since it shows how women are mistreated by being poorly paid and the difficulties they go through while raising a child without the husband’s help.
“The Story of an Hour” is also a book I enjoyed reading. I see the use of sarcasm where the woman felt relieved after receiving the news of her husband’s death. Under normal circumstances, the spouse’s loss brings grief, but that was not the case in this reading. In my view, I think the woman was in an unhappy marriage. But still, I don’t think even in the most unhappy marriage, and one would wish the death of their spouse. I think the story is controversial in how the wife was happy about the sad news, and the wrong part of the husband is not portrayed.
