The day it happened
Based on the story, it illustrates the issue that women in society face. It describes domestic violence as the major familial relationship issue among many women in society. The issue is based on married couples for a short period by have experienced many fights. It reflects how women in the society through Josie find themselves in abusive relationships and are embarrassed to reveal what they go through in their families, thus retaining the struggle and the pain that they have until they believe that there is nothing wrong happening in their relationships.
The challenge that Josie overcomes in the story is the domestic violence given that she had been involved in many fights for the short period that she was married (Morales, 1992). She fined it for being a problem that her husband has and could not take as excuses for the several fights that she has undergone. She decides to leave the husband and the live-in her ways instead of fighting.
Josie’s action leaving her marriage was catalyzed by the desire that she had on her well-being and the child in her womb. Given that other women around his house could always sympathize with her on the situation she underwent, she realized that they faced the same thing but could not speak out. She felt tired and could not keep it anymore, gaining the confidence to confront his husband’s harassment and violence.
I think that Josie’s actions show a young woman facing a similar problem to have a sense of strength against the domestic abuse and stand up for themselves. Thus, it shows that women in society could change the perception of being viewed as the week individuals who are denied their rights and treated unfairly. In conclusion, it is clear that she wants women to stand up for their rights and fight against being abused.
