THE EMERGENCE OF NEW TECHNOLOGY

Introduction

Emerging technologies refer to new technology or the continued advancement of the technology available depending on the various setting such as the social media, business sector, and even the education sector. The emerging technologies also include the development of technology over the years and the availability of technology that will be existing over the next years, creating various significant effects both socially and economically. According to the article, the world is increasingly becoming digital with the complexity surrounding the human world. The different emerging technologies outlined in this article include the robotic process automation, the Internet of Things, and even algorithmic decision making. All these emerging technologies are all likely to affect an organization in different ways (Cardello et al.,  Lesher, 2017).

The effects of the emerging technologies on business

The emergence of new diverse technologies all over the world has brought major impacts on various fields. Technology has influenced how multiple organizations work, changing the nature of leadership in the organization, and even revolutionizing work globally. Automation technology is one of the emerging technologies which has been highly adopted in the new world. Automation refers to the creation of technology for controlling and monitoring product production and delivery. The use of automation in production performs the tasks that humans are expected to perform, such as delivering goods to the customers, analyzing information and production (Berberian et al., 2016).

Organizations have introduced automation in their operations due to different reasons.  Organizations have introduced an automated production process for the safety of the employees. Through the automation process, human interaction with machines at the workplace is much limited. Through this, the employee interaction with the devices is reduced, and this reduces the possible hazards on employees at the workplace. Automation has also helped with time management. Companies that use automation have been able to save more time in production and delivery over the years. Automation uses machines in the production process, which are faster than human beings. The activities which required more time when carried out by persons often take less time when the machines are used. Drones, for instance, have been used in delivering customer products showing more effectiveness in time faster deliveries than human beings (Berberian et al., 2016).

Negative impacts of automation

The increased technology over the years has led to the need for research in identifying the impact that automation brings to the organization or the general society. The various issues emerging under automation technology over the years is the loss of job opportunities over the years. As automation of processes increases in everyday activities of organizations, job opportunities in organizations are likely to reduce. Automation technology has been introduced to increase the efficiency of operations in organizations with the need to meet the increasing customer demand. Companies opt to use machines in production to enable them to produce bulk products. However, the process of using machines in place of human beings has led to low job opportunities as the machines are more efficient. The high volumes of produce through automation technology enables organizations to achieve high profits. However, the technology also brings various negative effects on the organization like the reduced number of workers. Maintaining an organizational culture over the years as automation is introduced may be challenging for most organizations as employee retention may be very low (Carl, 2019).

As organizations introduce the use of machines in their organizations for various advantages such as work safety or low costs in production and saving time, automation has been considered as a threat to future jobs hence organizations need to develop ways of dealing with it. Automation threatens job creation; thus, its adoption needs to be a careful one. Companies or organizations that long to maintain their organizational culture can retain experienced employees when introducing machines in place of humans. Companies also need to regulate the automation of its process and using machines in the sectors which prove to be more profitable. For example, a company which has adopted the use of drones in delivering products to their customers can opt for personal deliveries as they create better relations due to the interactions with the customers.

The Internet of Things

Technological advancements have led to the development of the Internet of things over the years. The Internet of things includes devices which record and transfer information that is used in monitoring critical organizational processes. The devices used in the Internet of things are connected to various sources of information, such as the market profits, consumer response, and even the production process. The machines collect and analyze data that can be used in making various comparisons, as well as in the process of decision making (Ashton, 2019).

The Internet of things has transformed businesses over the years with better insights, better efficiency, and even results. Various companies, such as Google, have used this method greatly over the years. Google advertisements for, instance, rely on the Internet of things when selecting favorable advertisements to customers. The Internet of things allows the company to gather information regarding the various searches for a particular consumer, and an advertisement depends on these searches.

As the Internet of things helps in collecting data from different inputs, less human effort is required in this case. Information regarding sales of an organization, customer behavior, and even the size of the market can be obtained using the Internet of Things. This saves the time required in collecting this information; hence decision main had been made fester over the years (Ashton, 2019).

The Internet of things can also cause setbacks. The use and maintenance of these devices can be highly expensive. Organizations that use these devices need to regularly check them to ensure their effectiveness in collecting and analyzing data. Errors in these devices can lead to incorrect results, which lead to poor decision making (Tan, & Wang, 2018).
