The Fight Against Violence
We can put an end to domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking behavior by speaking out and taking a stand. Therefore, there are several measures we can take at the local, national, state, and international levels. For example, At the local and state level, people champion for more legislations that support survivors of violence. They can achieve this through conversations with family members, neighbors, friends, colleagues, and both the local and state leaders. Individuals can ask leaders what their plan is towards ending domestic violence. They are also the ones to push leaders for reforms of the existing policies. Also, at the local and state level, people can raise awareness against domestic violence by wearing ribbons and clothes that show support ending it during the DVAM (Domestic Violence Awareness Month). Furthermore, they can create awareness by regularly organizing events that discuss issues of domestic violence in society.
At the national and international levels, we can end domestic violence by creating and supporting policies such as VAWA (Violence Against Women Act), VOCA (Victims of Crime Act), and FVPSA (Family Violence Prevention and Services Act). There is a need to provide enough funds so that communities can have enough resources to fight against domestic violence. The funds support law enforcement, children services, community outreach, rape crisis centers, and domestic violence centers. Therefore, there is a need to provide enough budget to support different policies. This involves addressing financial issues in society. Often, most abusers use the financial advantage to gain control and power in relationships. Therefore, survivors and victims of violence should have access to resources that help them to rebuild their lives and families.
