The healthy communities’ movement applies strategic insight into the health efforts in the context of health care reform. The elements of broad strategic thinking are demonstrated in the movement’s ability to identify the needs and using the resources and opportunities available to assist the communities in promoting their health status. Leadership is a primary factor necessary to effectively impact on the community’s health as it incorporates the capacity to influence others to attain a common purpose. The community health initiatives combine other non-medical aspects to promote healthy-living such as sport, exercise, physical exercise, as well as fostering good living standards. The strategies target at improving the local conditions and outcomes of the rural and urban settings, initiatives that resonate nationally.
Social development is the core determinant of health outcomes that is committed to promoting wellbeing of the population. Particularly, CINDI-CARMEN focuses on establishing and eliminating the leading causes of mortality and morbidity. Community development entails a range of efforts to improve the social, economic, physical, and social environment by promoting affordable medication to low-income neighbourhoods. Local governments and community organizations have applied a unique network of connections to address the upstream factors or root causes affecting the quality of health. Community health initiatives highlight is varying degrees of government collaboration with voluntary and private sectors to attain goals within the broader public agendas. Underlying the efforts are strong elements of health system developments, social development, and healthy public policies. Community participation is critical in the success of social development, however, the policies should be managerially feasible, culturally acceptable, and scientifically sound. Social development is an inclusive strategy that aims to promote people’s welfare by reducing the mortality and morbidity rate by ensuring people live in better environments. Particularly, the article addresses the reduction of communicable diseases through improving skills and learning for the people in rural communities. For example, the purpose for the Wisconsin community initiative was to improve health indicators through sensitizing the prevention of diseases.
