The History and Different Origins of Golf
Golf is a game played by hitting a small ball with a club with the intent of sinking the ball into a specific hole. Golf is usually played in teams of between two and four people, referred to as a group of golfing friends. Over time there have been many different origins of golf. Golf has roots in the Roman empire, where a game called paganica was played by Romans (Smith 72-73). The Romans are said to have introduced the game throughout their territories. The modern version of the golf game is said to have been developed by the Scotts. Scotland is said to be the place where the first rules of the game were laid down. In Scotland and England at large, the game was first seen as a wastage of time by the nobility. However, in time these views changed, and members of the nobility such as King James VII of Scotland started participating in the game. Other game roots were found in ancient China, where a similar game known as Chuiwan was played. This game was mainly reserved for the nobility and members of the Chinese court (Jacques 503-504). Similar and older versions of the game were found in France and the Netherlands. The oldest record of golf clubs was written between the years 1503-1504.
