The indicators I would have looked for and why.
In the parker family, various suicide indicators have been discussed. In fact, the evident factors include; the girl’s lack of family support, a teenager, and depressed. According to Miers et al. (2012), there has been an increase in suicide cases over the past years in the United States, and the majority of them who die are below the age of 20. United states record more than 1, 900 suicide cases annually, which has stirred up a hot debate. Researchers have tried to establish the reasons as to why the cases have been on the rise significantly. Grounded on parkers family, the girl was displaying depression signs when she was playing with her friends. She lost her thinking, thus making it a big indicator of a probable suicide incident. Consequently, her cry for help after an attempt at suicide was not taken seriously by her parents; this is a clear indication that the parents were not keen on taking care of the girl. Therefore, there is a likelihood that she could try suicide another time.
How I would have responded to the indicators
If I knew the girl lacked family support, I would have encouraged her to do group therapy and personal counseling. This would have provided her with the opportunity to listen to other teenagers who had attempted suicide, thus providing necessary information on how she would support herself externally. Moreover, with the depression issue, I would try and get her psychologist or encourage her to use an antidepressant.
The questions I would have asked and why
To solve the issues in Parker’s family, I would try to enquire what type of things make Stephanie happy and sad. In addition, I would ask her what she does to cope with stressful circumstances. These questions are important because when individuals can learn and cope with stress, they can create healthy habits easily in their lives.
