The Joint Commission
The Joint Commission is a nonprofit healthcare organization based in the United States. The Joint Commission was founded in 1951. The organization is concerned with the issue of quality of care particularly the certification and accreditation of various healthcare organizations in the United States (Kamarajah et al., 2017). Its mission is to join forces with relevant stakeholders to improve the quality of care for the public. The vision of the organization is to ensure that American citizens are provided with the safest and highest quality healthcare services across health facilities in the United States.
The purpose of The Joint Commission is to consistently improve the quality of healthcare provided to the public. The commission works closely with relevant stakeholders in the bid to keep various organizations on track and to ensure the healthcare organizations provide effective and safe quality of care. The Joint Commission reduces clinical processes variation to improve the quality of care provided to patients. The organization’s main emphasis is on the clinical practice guidelines to assist various healthcare organizations come with a long-lasting approach to healthcare services. The Joint Commission plays an important role in nursing education as it offers certification and accreditation programs which allow the nurses to meet the required minimum quality standard guidelines (Frost et al., 2019). The organization’s research department is consist of a team of masters and doctoral-level researchers who work closely with external research groups, accredited organization and senior government research agencies such the Center for Disease Control and Prevention to ensure that nursing research is on track. The Joint Commission actively participates in the evaluation of different disease management programs and provide the basis for clinical excellence. The organization also advocates for the rights of nurses by protecting them against exploitation by other institutions such as government institutions. As a nurse, I can support the organization because it provides a platform for nurturing nurses to deliver their best.
In conclusion, The Joint Commission plays an important role in ensuring that the quality of healthcare services is maintained across different healthcare organizations. It offers accreditation and certification of various nursing programs in the bid to maintain quality of care to the public.
