The Pandemic Could Make Political Conventions Less Terrible

What Is The Author’s Conclusion Or Main Point?

The author concludes by appreciating that the political class led by President Donald Trump has respected the times they are in and have called off political gatherings that would jeopardize citizen’s health in the era of COVID-19 pandemic. He also encourages the politics to be carried out through media and virtual means like Zoom meetings and live recordings to be relayed to the people as opposed to calling for gatherings and conventions (Nicholas, 2020). He also advises both the republicans and democrats to make use of tele-rallies to achieve their campaign goals.

How Does The Author Attempt To Make The Case?

The author recognizes the need to safeguard the lives of the citizens. Lives of the people are superior to politics, hence the need to ensures all activities, including presidential campaigns, respect that position. He makes his case by giving examples of how the COVID-19 infections have increased in the recent past due to a lack of proper social distancing protocols among the American people. It is, therefore, imperative for the politicians, including the president, to encourage social distancing and to stay safe by not holding political rallies and convention. Such things are not so important and can be sacrificed for the sake of human survival against COVID-19.

Does The Author Use Logical Argumentation? Does The Author Use Rhetoric?

The author uses logic in his argument in that he provides evidence on the infection ways of the COVID-19 pandemic. The infection is spread when people come close to one another as observed by the healthcare providers and experts in infectious diseases; it is only fair to the main social distance (Nicholas, 2020). This is achieved by canceling all political rallies and holding them virtually.

The author uses rhetoric to emphasize his point of achieving the same results using safe means by the politicians.  He gives an example where the former rivals only appear for the sake of party unity and nothing more. They can, therefore, declare this virtually in tele-rallies.

Is The Author’s Position Reasonable? Why Or Why Not?

The author’s position is reasonable. This is because avoiding social gatherings and keeping a social distance is the only way that can help reduce and even curb the spread of the coronavirus. The author giving alternative ways of connecting with the electorate without physical contact would ensure the campaigns continue and, at the same time, prevent the spread of the coronavirus hence reducing fatalities.
