The passion of nursing
The passion comes from within the passion to care to nurture to heal and to help. I had it in me since I was a little child. I didn’t know I will become a nurse one day but every second of my past guided me to where I am today. I found it all in nursing, the combination of knowledge and passion to care. The first time I noticed the pleasure in helping was when I was only four years old and my uncle broke his ankle. every time I brought him a glass of water or the moments he explained to me How the fracture heals by casting Were filled with pleasure and joy of learning. I noticed the urge to learn about pathophysiology when I was only 10 years old and I had a book called “still More Tell Me Why” by Arkafy…. Unfortunately when I was 14 I was forced to choose mathematic and physics major because I was really good at it but when we move to Canada and I was old enough to decide by myself I knew that math is great but it’s not my passion. I got into nursing program at BCIT and I knew from the very first day that I want to be a NuRse practioner. I have done more than 1000 hours of volounteer work in nursing homes and downtown eastside. In those hours I have noticed the urge of the community to have accessibility in a relatively less expensive and knowledgable health care professional. In many rural areas there are many small tribes that would benefit tremendously from having an NP since they cannot afford a physician to visit them. (Hospital vsisits decreased from rural area when they had physicina or NP visiting them site this). At the time I was student I did not have the knowledge nor the power to make the change I hope, but I was able to initiate the Hepatitis B program in more than 5 locations in Downtown Eastside along with out reach program to 3 rural areas. I hoped that one day I return to what I have started as a Nurse Practitioner and offer more to my community. I could not imagine a better candidate for such communities than a nurse practitioner. Later my experience in the Heart Center of st pauls hospital added to my knowledge on how an NP could be so effective and cost efficient in surgical/ medical wards. I have the opportunity to work closely with NPs on cardiac surgery, atrial fibrillation clinic, and Catheterization lab. Among those I learned the confidence, knowledge and competency outstanding of the NPs graduated from UBC. Infact, my very first essay at BCIT was on my personal goal on 1-5, and 10 years from that time and I have achieved everything on that path.
