What learned?
Culture plays a significant factor in controlling what children and family feed on in their everyday lives. Culture may, at times, cause poor eating habits leading to health complications among both children and family members. It is also important to note that nutrition plays a critical role in the physical and mental development of a child. Parents and other family members should set good examples for the children when it comes to food through healthy meals and healthy snacking.
Application
After learning about the impact of culture concerning food, then as a nurse, it is essential to address this aspect when it comes to the clients. Asking and advising them on the best food to take and the quantity is necessary as most people suffer from poor nutrition for lack of knowledge. For instance, some cultural foods act as factors that cause cancer, such as red meat, regulating the intake of such foods is essential to clients.
The reason why the United States has a less life expectancy compared to other countries is because of dominant issues such as violence, a high rise in obesity cases, tobacco use, and a high rate of chronic diseases such as cancer. These factors have become difficult to treat since they make up the daily lives of the people of the United States, Unhealthy eating, ownership of guns and lack of proper personal care for health are a norm in the United States. One of the ways of combating these factors would be psychotherapy, where persons are taught on the importance of their health and some of the standard ways that cause them to suffer unknowingly health-wise. Giving people information on aspects such as outcomes of birth, injuries, homicide, adolescent pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS, drug and alcohol mortality, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, chronic lung disease, and disability among older persons: gives them the know about and helps them to be on the lookout of such issues.
A mass shooting is a traumatizing event for all groups, not only the vulnerable ones. However, the vulnerable groups are more affected since they are perceived as weak, and they are not able to defend themselves. Besides, vulnerable groups are more involved since they cause the most damage and affect the country a great deal. Sensitive groups include the children, ethnic minority groups, ill persons, and those with disabilities. Policy changes as much as they offer help, the help is limited to the next time they will have to be changed again. The assistance rendered by the policy change is limited to time. However, as an APRN, education is the key. Education peoples on mass shootings, its effects, implications, and target groups enable people to be more careful and to have knowledge that helps them prevent further damage.
