The reading and writing processes
Reading is an interactive process that I had little information about before this course. It provides essential knowledge of the issues that humanity has experience from the time of origin up until now. The knowledge acquired from historical events contributes to the prediction of the future. Before this class, I had a general view of reading as an activity that only equips the learner with knowledge to pave the way for the job market. However, the lesson has enhanced my experience of learning to include decision making and problem-solving.
Moreover, it has provided a linkage for all the variables that exist in nature. The reading of the article by Neil Postman highlights the importance of a non-biased view of the author towards the subject matter. It gives the reader the chance to determine their course of action based on the information provided. The article majored on both the advantages and disadvantages of innovations without taking sides on any particular idea. Reading this material equipped me with the knowledge I needed in logical reasoning and understanding. It did not manipulate the reader to a specific way of thinking but instead gave them the freedom to decide for themselves. The knowledge acquired from this course will aid me in the future writing of scholarly essays that will be free from the researcher’s prejudice.
The writing process is an engagement of all the aspects of the author. It requires full cooperation on the ideas presented and display full knowledge of the subject matter. It is impossible to convince your audience of the authenticity of your work if the information is vague, scarce, or crumbled with instances that do not relate. I learned the importance of abiding by the topic of discussion and not diverting to other issues that have no relation to the subject matter. Moreover, the choice of words is vital in writing to ensure the persuasion of the reader. For instance, philosophical essays require the use of philosophical terms, and that applies to medical papers. Each sentence in writing needs to stand for its own and provide complete comprehension for readers. This aspect is essential for the flow of the essay. The proper use of parts of speech should correlate and prove harmonious. Additionally, sentence structure is critical for passing out the required information. In the paragraphs, each one of them should stand for an independent idea beginning with the thesis statement that will provide a roadmap for the theme in the section.
Writing requires prior preparation that begins with the collection of information on the literature that exists. This information with support your point of view so that you avoid assumptions and biases that will put off the reader. It is essential to identify the right source of information and ensure it is scholarly and reliable. It is the only way your writing will be credible before any audience. This is a valuable lesson that I learned in my essay writing.
Additionally, it is crucial to have a summary of the topic that you will be writing about to ensure that each idea falls in its rightful place. Writing indiscriminately will stripe you of the flow that every reader looks for in an article of interest. After you have all that you need, including the technological know-how to type in a computer or write on paper, then the writing begins. At this point, it is essential to stick to the plan. In case an idea comes up in the process of writing, you should go back to your draft and try incorporating it there.
Moreover, ensure that as you include the scholarly peer-review articles, you remain the core owner of your work. To achieve this, you should provide your perspectives in support or disagreement with your sources. After you’re done writing, you should go through the work to ensure it has met the objectives.
The format of the essay often comes at the last stage of writing. It is at this point that you choose the heading that is most appropriate for the article and the format. However, it is vital to have the title in mind at the beginning so that you do not stray off from the point. From my experience, I learned to give my essay a title after I am done with the writing. Moreover, I did the formatting at the last stage, ensuring the paragraphs aligned with the topic. The thesis statement was a challenge at first, but afterward, I was able to formulate the right ones and align them with the themes. For every paragraph, I learned the importance of writing the titles for easy navigating of the reader. In case someone wanted to skim the work before reading, then they would be able to have the general idea of the format used, the themes, and the type of paper. This process often saves a lot of time for individuals who are looking for specific information on the internet or from paperwork.
