The Savannah College of Art and Design
The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) was founded in the year 1978. The founders of the school were Paula Wallace, Richard G. Rowan, May L. Poetter, and Paul E. Poetter. They decided to open the college so as to offer college degree programs that were previously not provided in southeast Georgia. They also wanted to create a professional art college that would attract students from different parts of the United States. In fact, the SCAD was legally incorporated as a college in Georgia on September 29, 1978.
For its first classroom and administration block, SCAD Savannah purchased and renovated the Savvanah Volunteer Guard Armory in the year 1979. This was after a board of trustees, whose first mission was to get an appropriate facility, was formed. Up to date, the structure still stands, and it is in use by SCAD. It is named Poetter Hall, in memory of two of its founders.
Today, SCAD is a nonprofit private institution that has already been accredited by Schools Commision on Colleges as well as Southern Association of Colleges to award masters and baccalaureate degrees. It is a platform where talented students are prepared before they indulge themselves in creative professions. The teaching mode is an engaging one, and the environment there is conducive for learning. They offer
