The solution to capital punishment issue and theories
It is and has always been the mandate and the responsibility of the government to provide equal security to its citizens on the pretext that it is both a necessity and obligation to do away with lawbreakers of any kind. Historically, capital punishment has never been the most appropriate solution, no matter the type of crime. The Canadian government should incorporate the following solutions in a bid to bring to an end the debate or rather the fight for the reinstitution of capital punishment. The first solution to this problem is that the Canadian government should find alternative means of punishment, such as extending life sentence years. In regard to the theory of constructionism, for example, which proposes the idea of reflecting upon the previous experiences of an issue before arriving at a solution goes to show that based on the previous experiences of capital punishment, the government should not reinstitute this form of punishment. Secondly, the government should work on correctional institutions more than the way of punishing individuals. Ross & Gendreau (2018), utilizing various social theories, point out that it is prudent for a country to invest more in correctional institutions as a way of punishing individuals rather than the ways of punishment. Lastly, the government should take a closer look at the root cause of crimes carrying the death penalty punishment. The government should formulate ways to specifically address the violent crimes that compel the government to apply hard interventions and measures aimed at addressing the issue of violent crimes.
Conclusion
For the past few years, the heated debate regarding the reinstitution of capital punishment has resulted in protest as every side moved to support their claims basing on the reasons well known to themselves. From the above illustrations, it is evident that in as much as the feeling of social insecurity coupled with the availability of resources to fight violent crimes has been the main basis of retention or the reinstitution of capital punishment, this form of punishment has been argued against by multiple organizations and groups. However, it is no exaggeration that this mode of punishment is not flawless and, therefore, the government should not reinstitute. It is also evident that available evidence both within and outside Canada illustrates that capital punishment is far from deterring crime, and therefore the government should not reinstitute it. According to McAleer,& Veall (2018) drawing from a study done by (NJS) he pinpoints that the violent crimes in Canada have reduced by approximately 40% since the abolition of capital punishment and this demonstrates that the proponents of its reinstitution lack tangible and significant ground for their claim and this, therefore, illustrates that the opponents of capital punishment are heard more than their counterparts.
