Case Study: Three Arguments
The first argument is whether Facebook or other social media creates isolation. The second one is whether athletes students who play for their teams in colleges should be paid. The third one concerns online studies. Technology has made it easier for students to study online. Therefore, some people have argued that libraries are no longer needed since students can find all the information they need through the internet.
My interest in the first argument concerns the wave that social media has taken over the world, and the impact that is has on the social lives of people, particularly teenagers. Most of the time, when people are in social places, they often have their phones on their hands using either Facebook or other social sites. I will argue for the fact that social media has created isolation because, from my experience, I always enjoy my privacy, chatting with people on social media.
For the second argument, college sports have been consistently popular, and the NCAA has brought revenues in significant amounts. The question is whether or not college students should be paid (Sarikas, paragraph 31). In this case, I will be against the argument because, as college students, it is ideal for engaging in co-curricular activities, and for athletes, they represent the school. Having been involved in athletics in my school, I can attest that such events help to break the monotony of sitting in the classroom, and it brings the difference.
The third argument is on online studies. I would argue against doing away with libraries because not everyone has full access to the internet (Sarikas, paragraph 7). Libraries should be in place for people who could face difficulties in accessing the internet throughout, particularly students in remote areas. As much as people can access the internet from their respective schools, the fact is that while at home, most students do not have access to the internet, thus they rely on the books they get from their libraries to continue with their studies at home.
