[Instructions: Input your title on the title line, use two or three words of the title to create a Running head, the words of the running head should be all caps, as shown above. Put in your name, then your course number, section number, semester and year (i.e. Summer 2020). Delete these instructions when finished.] Your title should not be the same as the article you are critiquing, and must fit on a single line.
Abstract
The abstract is the last part of the paper you will write. It should be between 150 and 250 words long and should be a summary of your paper. It should cite the source of your material in the first sentence, and as needed after that. Citations provide evidence on the topic, without them you are either just writing an opinion, or worse you are taking credit for another person’s work. The two types of citations are contextual or a part of a sentence and parenthetical (after a sentence). Examples are as follows: Smith and Jones (2019) initiated research into the effects of stress on health outcomes. The research indicated a significant positive correlation between increased stress load and heart attacks (Smith & Jones, 2019). Note in the latter, the period ending the sentence is after the citation.

Introduction
The introduction is a minimum of one full page which explains why, in the opinion of the original author, this research subject is important and significant. You should begin by citing the author(s) in the first sentence. This is necessary as it establishes what subject matter you are writing about and where you got your information. In this page, try to explain the reasons you chose the topic, that is why it is important.
Remember in writing your paper, write in third person, no first or second person pronouns. Use the name(s) of the authors rather than referring to them with pronouns, this is more precise because it defines to whom you are referring. For example, Smith and Jones (2019) were interested in the effects of …, is much better than The authors were interested in…
No direct quotes are allowed put all information in your own words. If you cite statistics from the original paper you must explain what they mean. Also, do not put the name of the original article in your paper, refer to that article by author names only. Use last names, no first names or initials – this prevents gender bias. Once you have written a full page introduction (it should contain more than one paragraph), you will be ready to submit the second assignment. Note that all paragraphs should be indented one half inch, not five spaces, one half inch. An example of the starting sentence might be:
Smith, Jones, and Williams (2011) investigated the ways in which gamma rays could be used to improve the growth rates of marigolds.

To explain the reference above. Note first the word “References” is centered at the very top of a new page. Note that all of the authors are listed with last names, and initials for first or first and middle names (whichever is listed on the article). Following this in parentheses is the year of publication – when the article was published. The title of the article is written in sentence style capitalization followed by a period. The name of the journal has every significant word capitalized and the journal title is in italics. At the end of the journal name is a comma, following the comma is the volume number (issue number), page numbers. Do not put the words page number or p. just do it as shown above. Be sure the reference has a hanging indentation like this is done. To do this select the reference, right click, select paragraph, under special indentation, select hanging, by .5”. Make sure both numbers to the left are 0. Also be sure everything in your paper is double spaced, on spacing select double, again the numbers to the left should be 0. Not the entire document must be the same font and font size.
