Togetherness against Discrimination and Racism
4th of July is an important day in every person, especially when the idea of political freedom comes in minds.it is the day in which we attained our national independence. The celebration of this day helps in marking the beginning of a new year to the national life.it makes everyone hopeful of achieving greatness in life. To date, the date is also essential since it is celebrated in the whole country. To bring some essential facts about the day, I will base my reflection on the speech by Frederick Douglass (Douglass, 1852).
Our country achieved independence from Britain on this day. At first, our people were not being treated well. The measures of the government during that time were not just nor were they reasonable. This is because every citizen in the country, especially blacks, were being oppressed. The people fought until independence was attained. That is why today we can enjoy the fruits of the people who fought for independence. Just like our forefathers, justice, liberty and humanity should be final when dealing with one another. The slavery and oppression of other people especially black Americans should be done away with (as it was seen in the George Floyd killing).we should come together just like our forefathers who fought for independence to fight this act of discrimination and racism.
Just as slavery and oppression were hated at first, discrimination and racism should be hated too. We should try to show liberty and justice to every person regardless of the race, tribe or the language. This should cut across to all people (all citizens, including police officers). Taking the case of the death of George Floyd killing, the issue of racism was seen. This was against what our forefathers would like our country to be going through. Surprisingly, the issue of togetherness was seen during the protest, where both the whites and the black Americans took part. They all came together to condemn the evil act, which was conducted by police officers in Minneapolis (Dave et al., 2020).
As an international student, the act of togetherness as depicted in the speech whereby the forefathers fought for independence is very important. It is through this act that justice will be administered equally to all students without considering the races or nationality. This will motivate me to work effortlessly since the virtue of equality will be seen even in academics.
