Toronto
Toronto is automobile dependent place; a condition contributed by the improvement of infrastructure, including the transportation sector. The city is structured into enhanced roads that support the transportation sector. The transport patterns are therefore controlled by the Toronto Transit Commission, which helps people to travel at any point in the city by use of paratransit services, streetcars, subways, and buses, among others. However, the city is comprised of different parts whereby some are developed than others hence affecting the consistency of transportation patterns. Areas near the town where all major activities take place are developed and interconnected to facilitate the effective movement of goods and people to promote economic activities. However, such areas are not as spacious as the interconnectivity limits the need for automobile assist. Hence, the dormant areas such as those which depend on the agricultural activities entirely rely on the automobile for transporting their products and reaching the market areas. In addition, such areas face underdevelopment of transport lanes, which increase their dependency on the automobile.
The retail trade patterns in Toronto mainly comprise of retail chains and independent retailers. The retail chains are organized to cater to wholesale activities, which help in the distribution of industrial and agricultural activities. On the other hand, the independent retail pattern is owned by individuals who sell their products directly to the consumers or other means without central management. Toronto has a downtown core used in retail trades. The core has historical development, which has contributed to international trading activities as well as helping the local producers to engage their trading activities effectively and consistently. “The retail core of Toronto is located along Yonge Street from Queen Street to College Street.” The city also has large shopping malls, power centers, and big box stores. The main mall is located at the center of town; Toronto Eaton Centre indoor mall. In addition, there are seven large hotels, approximately 600 retail stores, and 150 clubs. There are also several power centers such as Portlands Energy Centre, Power House, and Markham Power Centre, which are located near the lakeport. The operations are therefore conducted in relation to the difference in the power stations to supply the electric currents to the respective areas in Toronto.
Concussion
To sum up, my hometown, Toronto, is structured as a typical urban centre with improved infrastructure and economic activities. The city has distinct geographical features such as rivers, escarpments, and islands. The economic activities are classified in relation to the economic globalization and local productions based on the existing multicultural disparities. The globalization facilitated international economic activities. Hence, being the capital city, Toronto has added advantage, which helped it to possess the economies of scale, thus enhancing the local economy as well. The population is generally increasing to the increase in immigration rates in the town, as it acts as the central place for immigration in Canada. Hence, transportation planning and land use patterns are affected by economic and cultural integration, which has led to the vibrant growth of the downtown core of Toronto.
