Tracing of Positive Covid-19 Citizens in Wuhan
Introduction
Framing is a way of shaping a problem statement in such a way that the audience will easily understand and will lead to the ultimate solutions to the problem without much trouble. Using the 40-20-10-5 rule as in (Gomez, 2019), I came up with a topic. I narrowed it to 5 words from the initial 40 words as follows: With the rise of the COVID-19 pandemic in Wuhan, the government has come up with ideas on how to curb it and tracing of citizens with positive virus tests has proven to be a measure in managing the spread (Kaplan, 2020). The Wuhan government is using contact tracing of coronavirus positive citizens to manage the dissemination of the virus. Contact tracing has proved to be effective in curbing coronavirus. The coronavirus pandemic in Wuhan. Below is an explanation of how I broke down my 40-word problem to a 5-word problem.
The 40- Word Problem Statement
The 40-word statement was the initial problem to be solved and stated that: ‘With the rise of COVID-19 pandemic in Wuhan, the government has come up with ideas on how to curb it and tracing of citizens with positive tests has proven to be a measure in managing the spread’. To come up with the problem statement, I put the problem in the context of what I already know and described the issue which is tracing of the coronavirus positive patients in Wuhan as a measure to curb it. I gave the reason why we need to know the issue as COVID-19 is a pandemic and had contact tracing as what the government is doing to curb the issue as reading at (McCombes, 2019).
The 20-Word Problem Statement
More straightforward than the first problem statement I came up with ‘The Wuhan government is using contact tracing of coronavirus positive citizens to manage the dissemination of the virus. This has narrowed down leaving behind what can be too apparent to the respective audience, for example, the government and rise of the pandemic and what is not very necessary to make the problem statement less ambiguous and less wordy. It has the same meaning as the first problem statement only that it has fewer words.
10-Word Problem Statement
‘Contact tracing has proven to be effective in curbing the coronavirus’ is even more straightforward and easy to understand. The problems exhibited in the context are the Covid-19 pandemic, vivid description of the problem, contact tracing as a measure of curbing the coronavirus, and the relevance of the problem has been clearly stated; coronavirus is a pandemic that is being curbed. This is more precise and concise.
5- Word Problem Statement
Finally, I came up with a 5- word problem statement to summarize the whole idea of the coronavirus pandemic as ‘The coronavirus tests in Wuhan’; simple and to the point. The context of the problem is already known as the coronavirus pandemic, in a country- Wuhan. The relevance of the problem is as well mentioned as the idea of the COVID-19 in Wuhan, and that is why we need to know it. The final statement is the most precise and concise thus can be easily understood by anybody or rather any calibre of readers.
Conclusion
In conclusion, a clearly defined and easily understood problem is essential for coming up with the correct findings, and more effective solutions to the problem hence know the significance of the research problem. For this matter, it should be framed to brief, yet including all critical information, using different methods of framing issues.
