Transgender

Introduction

Transgender is a phrase used to refer to an individual who displays characteristics of a gender opposite to the sex allocated them during birth. These individuals may for instance display characteristics of the opposite gender despite having the genitalia of the other gender. Under this, a transgender male may display feminine characteristics with instances of even changing their name to fit their new gender. The female, on the other hand, may also display male characteristics and thus hate being associated with the female gender. Their physical complexion leaves them confused on which gender to associate themselves genuinely with since they have physical characteristics of both genders. Due to this, there s no right gender to belong to or not to belong to for these individuals. The gender identity they chose to adapt to therefore is based on the inner feelings of the individual who chooses the given gender. Transgender individuals tend to portray gender expression based on the gender they want to associate themselves with. These individuals dressing code is related to the gender identity to which they want to associate. The transgender individuals seek to change even the nouns used when referring to them to fit into their newly adopted gender. When a male for instances displays more feminine characteristics than the female ones, they will tend to shift to the other gender. On the other hand, despite being a transgender, an individual may seek to remain to the gender given during birth if the major characteristics displayed supports their current gender.

Treatment

Sometimes medical surgery can be performed for individuals who want to transit from one gender to their preferred gender. The condition in most cases is corrected through surgery especially during the tender age. Some families, however, disown their kids born within this condition making these kids leave in isolation from the lest of the world. The surgery undertaken is meant to help complete transition into the desired gender on the part of the individual. The individual is treated to match the gender identity to which they are emotionally attached. Another treatment approach is through the use of transgender hormone therapy. Under this approach, the hormones are used to increase or suppress the sexual characteristics to conform to the desired gender identity. A female transgender individual who is going through this therapy, for instance, will be given medication to suppress the male hormones in her affecting the secondary sexual characteristic.

Signs and symptoms

Transgender characteristics are portrayed at a tender age; it’s from their young age that kids associate themselves with the gender they believe they belong. Among some of the indicators which can help one determine their children are transgender or not include: the grooming code of the individual, the individual dresses up to conform to the gender identity to which they are emotionally attached (Tate et al. 221). These individuals also like to disassociate with others within their current gender. Extremism of up normal behavior on the part of the kid can suggest that the kid is a transgender. These up normal behavior may include, for instance, a young boy who is extremely attached to dolls and likes to play with them. The kid may be a transgender. An individual may also hate their name and instead choose a name of the opposite gender; this happens as an indication of a transgender. At a tender age the kid may start hating their genitalia which is an indication of a sign of opposite gender identity on the part of the individual. Another notable indicator is when an individual associate themselves with a Peron of another gender and want to be like them, a case which is not possible in their current gender. The sexual orientation of these individuals also can dictate whether the individual is a transgender or not. Sometimes these individuals have a confused sex orientation with difficulties on which gender to sexually engage with and which gender to avoid. Transgenders tend to be attracted towards their fellow transgender individuals; this is because of the discrimination they face from the society at large.

Management

The transgender suffers from a lack of social representation since their type is not accepted in their communities. In some instances, they suffer from stigmatization within different scales of society. These individuals suffer from job discrimination, their condition is seen as a disability in the making them not to be considered for job recruitments. The law, however, has come up with means to protect the minority groups within the society — another challenge these individual faces is sexually assaulted, due to their nature they are exposed in all avenues (Reisner et al. 98). Effective treatment acts a successful management approach to ensure dignity is restored on the part of these individuals. The individuals who have undergone successful treatment ought to be accepted back to the society as ordinary people, and therefore the stigmatization avoided. The government has to ensure the discrimination laws are enforced to ensure their rights are observed.

Parent need to closely monitor their children and note behavior change to enhance the treatment from a tender age.
