Trump’s Tulsa Rally Could Take Place Outside
Rising concerns about President Trump’s upcoming rally in Tulsa could see it moved outdoors.
According to Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt, ‘I am looking for a potential other venue [so] that maybe we could move it outside. It’s still kind of in the works.’
Nearly one million people have requested for tickets for the rally, slated to take place on Saturday at the 19,000-seater BOK Center.
Public health officials, including Tulsa’s health director, have cautioned against a large indoor event, especially with COVID-19 infections on the rise in the state.
Interestingly, attendees at the rally will have to sign a disclaimer absolving the venue and the Trump campaign of any liability if they contract the coronavirus.
Influential Model Predicts 200,000 Deaths in the U.S by October 1
The University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation is a reputable organization that has been giving COVID-19 projections.
On June 10, the institute had released a projection that 169, 890 deaths will occur in the U.S by October 1.
Now, on Monday, new projections predict that around 201,129 deaths from the coronavirus by the start of October, a substantial increase from the previous estimates.
Chillingly, the IMHE model anticipates that Florida will be among the states that will bear the full brunt of the virus.
While the previous model has anticipated 6,559 deaths, the prediction now stands at 18,675 deaths in Florida.
Many states have lifted restrictions, schools and businesses are opening.
Do you think that this accounts for the massive rise in anticipated infections and deaths?
North Korea Blows up Office Used for Talks with South Korea
Recently, a group of defectors used balloons to convey anti-North Korean messages north of the demilitarized zone.
In retaliation, North Korea has blown up an office used for talks with South Korea.
The joint-liaison office is located in a four-storey building in Kaesong. The town of Kaesong is on the North Korean side of the DMZ.
‘In a statement on Tuesday, North Korea said that, ‘The recent foolish act of daring hurt the dignity of our supreme leadership. The world will clearly see what severe punishment our people will mete out to the South Korean authorities and how they wipe the human scum off the earth.’
North Korea alleges that the leaflets violated the 2018 deal where leaders of both countries accepted to cease ‘all hostile acts and eliminating their means, including broadcasting through loudspeakers and distribution of leaflets’ along the shared border.
The destruction of the liaison office is a highly-symbolic act by North Korea.
Do you think that this will change the relationship between the two countries that agreed to a ‘new era of peace’ less than three years ago?
New COVID-19 Outbreak in Beijing Sparks Fear of a Second Wave
Beijing has been touted as one of China’s safest cities as far as COVID-19 goes, but that is now set to change.
A fresh cluster of novel COVID-19 cases has materialized from Beijing’s largest wholesale food market.
This emergence has sparked fears of a resurgence of the deadly virus after the city reported 36 new cases on Monday.
This number brings the total cases to 79 since June 12, when a local transmission was reported in almost two months.
These new cases are connected to the Xinfadi market in southwest Beijing where most of the city’s seafood, meat, fresh vegetables, and fruit comes from.
Do you think that the reemergence of COVID-19 in Beijing, previously among the safest places means a second wave of infections is upon the city?
L.A. Health Inspectors: Restaurants Not Following COVID-19 Guidelines.
California allowed restaurants in Los Angeles County to reopen less than two weeks ago with strict regulations in place.
Some of these protocols include separating tables with partitions or six feet of space between them. Also, all serving staff should have face shields and masks, plus the restaurant should be under 60% capacity.
Over the weekend, health inspectors visited 2,000 restaurants and found that around half of them didn’t comply with the set COVID-19 guidelines.
According to L.A County Health Director Barbara Ferrer, inspectors ‘found that 50 per cent of the restaurants were still not in compliance. That was alarming, though nonetheless an improvement over the previous weekend.’
Having been given a chance to reopen their businesses, don’t you think that restaurant owners should comply with these regulations to avoid closure?
