Unions for health care employees

Introduction

In 1935, the congress enacted the national labor  relations. The main aim of enacting this labor relation was  to protect  every employee and  also their  employers. This movement aimed at preventing disputes from occurring at the work environment , and thereby  encouraging the day to day activities to flow  as per the expectation. Employees collective bargain refers to the process by which nurses working in a certain  health facility can  request for their rights through their unions via the union leaders. This rights includes; increased salary, leaves, security for the nurses , balancing family and work and many more other rights. In the following essay, we will  learn whether nurses should or should not join this labour relations.

Advantages   of unions in a healthcare

The unions in a health care ,  is the medium of communication  that is used by the healthcare employees to pass their interest to their employers. Each union has a leader who acts as a representative  of the entire employees. Therefore  , the employers are  keen to hear  from the union representative  and hence  reacting over the issues which are raised. Therefore, the unions are  very important  for the operation of the health facilities.Additionally, employees are able to raise their voices and ask for leaves (martarnet or the sick leaves),increase of salary, provision of security especially for those  nurses who work during late hours and  being given offs, which may help the employee to be able to balance their working time  with the family time .

Disadvantages  of unions in a healthcare

It is very expensive to join the existing labour unions.Especially for the new nurses. All nurses are forced to join the union so as to be part of the existing nurses.Failure to join, would result  into  a negative feedback.Theredore, each nurse is forced to join the labour union. Each labour union charges differently and  the entry fee as well as  the monrhly charges are charged differently. Therefore each nurse will be forced to dig dip so as to have a clear understanding of the existing labor unions before joining.

Additionslly, nurses waste alot of time, attending to this labor unions meetings. The labor unions at the  state , have a scheduled period at which it should happen.Even  in case of emergency  nurses will be forced to attend to the  union meeting instead of carrying out their duties of saving lives.

Conclusion

Unions are of great importance to the health facilities.Because the unions betters communication  between the employees  and the employers.Thereby more is likely to be attained via the labor unions, than when we do not have any labor union. On the other hand the management  of the unions, should be carried out by professionals, so as to achieve more in this unions.
