Introduction

The four lenses comprise history, humanities, natural and applied sciences, and social sciences. From my perspective, I believe that these lenses will play a vital role in understanding wellness and related topics. This concept means that a better understanding of these lenses will put me in a position to effectively assess wellness from a wide range of perspectives and different standpoints. For instance, viewing wellness from the perspective of the social science lens will enable me to determine factors such as people’s health, their perception of wellness, and the relationship between people in society. In another context, assessing wellness from the lens of the natural sciences will enable me to understand how individuals embrace techniques such as technology to enhance their daily lives in terms of wellness. On the other hand, the historical lens will enable me to understand the progress of the concept of wellness throughout the lives of individuals and why wellness is from the contemporary point of view. The society interacts with the concept of health and wellness in different means, and this essay focuses on expounding further on this topic.

As a healthcare professional, wellness plays a significant role in influencing my field of study and my future profession. This approach means that in the field, such as management of healthcare services that entail coordination of health services, enhancing patient care, and overseeing health services in healthcare institutions, wellness enables me to pay more attention to my area of study. Different aspects of culture tend to influence individuals’ wellbeing in terms of socioeconomic status, an individual’s identity, and their subjective view of wellness. According to scholars, and the individual who lives in a community that does not embrace cultural aspects such as beliefs and identity is at an increased chance of getting their wellness adversely affected. Therefore, societal members should strive to connect with culture to experience positive impacts on their sense of belonging and identity. This is because the approach is significant in increasing the mental health and wellbeing of individuals. This essay will incorporate gender equality through history, humanities, natural and applied sciences, and social sciences lenses to determine its impacts in various institutions (Di Fabio, 2017).

Lens analysis

Scholars highlight that gender equality is one of the contemporary issues in healthcare systems that influences the sector’s different dimensions. Aspects of gender equality, such as stereotypes and norms, have been used to reinforce identities based on gender and constrain the behavior of men and men through the four educational lenses. For instance, in an attempt to establish the relationship between the concept of gender equality and history lens, scholars have highlighted that history considers different experiences of individuals whose lives were dominant during a particular era. The concept of gender equality is connected in several institutions such as high schools and institutions of higher learning such as colleges and universities, and this has led to emerging topics to understand the historical view of the concept. The education lens of history seeks to analyze how things used to be in the past and how they have changed because of history. Hence, by establishing the relationship between the evolution of gender equality in the past and contemporary society, scholars seek to come up with a more practical understanding. The approach entails the study of patterns on the issue of gender equality over time. At the same time, history scholars and institutions try to establish the connection between gender equality and history lens by studying historical people whose lifestyles significantly impacted contemporary life patterns, either partially or wholly (Rubery & Hebson, 2018). Hence, by studying these aspects of history, institutions can understand how gender equality was practiced in the past in society, how the concept has changes and possible future trends.

In another context, the issue of gender equality is significantly connected to humanities as an educational lens through the study of cultural contexts globally and their similarities and differences. As an educational lens, humanity seeks to establish the aspects of literature, dance, photography, and philosophy associated with gender equality that explore and explain the perception of people towards the concept. Scholars such as diverse cultures at the international level have come up with explicit justifications for and against gender equality. On the other hand, institutions have developed learning units that provide relevant information that can be used to understand the concept of gender equality in different scenarios, inclusive of its cause and impact in different cultural contexts. As a result, scholars can compare and contrast the cultural perspectives of men and women, together with the perception of individuals globally, about the issue of gender diversity. Therefore, the humanistic point of view seeks to establish a wide range of values that describe gender equality as well as eradicating misunderstandings on gender inequality. Besides, institutions can implement strict measures to curb the concept of gender inequality.

Natural sciences, on the other hand, as an educational lens, seeks to come up with questions and put into practice a specific process of describing, observing, and predicting the natural world. Natural scientists strive to establish how technology can be used to solve issues such as gender inequality that face the world inclusive of the healthcare systems today. In contemporary society, gender equality has remained a matter of concern where men and women face different interactions in the physical world. Hence, different bodies have been established to facilitate equality in gender representation in the fields of technology, biology, and physics. Global bodies such as the United Nations (UN) have strived to advocate for more women in science to curb the issue of gender inequality among women pursuing subjects in the field of physical sciences. Natural sciences as an educational lens, therefore, are used as the basis for gender equality controversy. In most situations, such as in the healthcare field, there is more representation of one gender than another. Therefore, institutions whose operations are mostly focused on the field of natural sciences have been forced to embrace diversity in terms of gender equality (Rubery & Hebson, 2018).

Lastly is the interaction between social sciences as an education lens and gender equality. The lens of social sciences seeks to assess the relationship between society and human behavior to assess how people conduct their lives and how they can improve their livelihood. Most institutions have integrated subjects and lessons in their curriculum that attempt to facilitate more understanding of gender equality as an issue of social sciences. Some of the lessons integrated by institutions into their studies are related to sociology, anthropology, and psychology. This approach enables them to enhance interactions among individuals and how they can live with people from the opposite gender.

How integrating the four lenses helps understand how problems in wellness impact both professional and personal contexts.

Scholars indicate that wellness is a multifaceted concept. Therefore, individuals should have the capability to view things from the four different lenses to understand their personal and professional lives. From the perspective of social sciences as an education lens, wellness can establish the relationship between society and the interactions among people who live in it. Therefore, individuals can understand human behavior and how people live as they live about their wellness. Viewing wellness from the lens of natural sciences can enable people to integrate logistics and technology to enhance personal health and wellbeing. On the other hand, the historical lens may play a significant role in enabling people to adequately understand wellness trends and the effects of history on wellness. Consequently, humanities as an education lens enable individuals to understand the culture and human experience through literature and art and the impact of wellness on different cultures from an international point of view.

As a healthcare professional also, understanding wellness is a vital aspect of my career filed. Developing an adequate understanding of wellness among healthcare professionals facilitates their development of traits such as empathy as they deal with patients in the real world. Therefore, understanding and integrating the four lenses is vital in facilitating success in different endeavors related to the professional fields, such as developing effective relationships with patients.

How social practices have been shaped by issues and events in wellness in modern cultures

Human beings acquire and learn behavior through social means such that most of the aspects are learned from the environment and the people surrounding them. Therefore, to relate the concept of wellness in the modern culture, individuals should strive to have adequate cultural competence so that they can effectively exploit the environment for personal benefits in terms of life values and beliefs. In social institutions such as the education sector, high schools, colleges, and universities have integrated uniformity in terms of the curriculum, learning materials study content and learning methods. This approach means that diversity in wellness has been embraced in the contemporary world. All learners can access different learning environments at ease and without any form of discrimination. At the same time, most institutions, including those in the health sector, have integrated multicultural literature into their daily operations so that individuals can acquire a broad understanding of different concepts across the world. The integration of multicultural cultures on wellness issues in different institutions embraces the means that most institutions embrace diversity. It enables different parties such as learners to identify and understand their cultures and expose themselves to other different cultures. These approaches, therefore, means that social practices have significantly been shaped by issues and events in wellness in modern cultures. Besides, culture plays a major role in shaping the daily activities of people in terms of rest, self-and problem-solving skills (Di Fabio, 2017).

Assess the benefits and challenges of addressing issues in wellness

The benefits of addressing issues in wellness in the workplace include a satisfied and emotional employee who are physically healthier and demonstrate dedication towards their responsibilities in the workplace. The key aspect of addressing issues in wellness entails behavior change. When people have the right knowledge and skills, social support, and motivation, they tend to easily change their behavior to facilitate success in the workplace. Hence, wellness programs are effective in helping individuals to develop, adopt, and sustain healthy behaviors, which in turn leads to decreased health risks to chronic illnesses. This approach, in turn, translates to decreased health costs among workers. In another context, integrating wellness programs in any institution facilitates the recruitment and retention of employees. In one study conducted by economic scholars, the findings indicated that up to 87% of employees are more willing to conduct in an environment that offers health and wellness programs (Hollmann, 2019). In terms of employee retention, wellness programs help improve employee loyalty so that they are more willing to work for their employers to improve productivity. Retention is the ability of a job environment to retain its human resources.

Almost all organizations face challenges as they strive to integrate wellness programs in the workplace. For instance, although wellness programs can demonstrate their effectiveness in the workplace, employers cannot follow up with their employees at home. Therefore, this concept means that it is impossible to get large groups of human resources to attain and maintain a healthy body weight even with increased cases of obesity among employees globally.

How analyzing wellness can help interactions with those of a different viewpoint, culture, and perspective.

Many scholars define wellness as a state of mental, physical, social, and emotional well-being as people strive to maintain a healthy and fulfilling life. The importance of wellness is reflected in health and well-being issues because it plays a vital role in facilitating the prevention of health conditions such as obesity, cardiovascular illnesses, and fall risk behaviors. Integrating wellness into individuals’ daily lives is significant in improving the quality of life for individuals who are at an increased risk of losing their independence. Therefore, people who have different points of view, perspectives, and different cultures on wellness issues can be educated on the importance of wellness by engaging in daily healthy eating, daily active living, and enhancing fitness. Through this approach, they will be able to promote healthy living, enhance their life span, and increase their independence. When people understand their interactions with society, how they can use technology to enhance their daily lives and how different aspects of their lives have changed throughout their lives, they can effectively embrace and implement wellness (Di Fabio, 2017).
