Variations in Drug Response
After looking at the real-life facts presented in the two cases, several factors must be considered in the description provided. In this case, the first factor is the age difference between the two individuals under the assessment. Ms. Jones is far much younger than Mr. Smith, with an age difference of approximately 35 years. Secondly, the mobility of the two patients concerning their size is another factor that cannot be neglected. Given that Ms. Jones is a trainer, I would probably assume that she is physically fit since she engages her body in exercise regularly.
On the other hand, she could probably know the most healthy diets, thus eats well. Simultaneously, participating in regular aerobic exercise implies that she has a smaller body size and weight compared to Mr. Smith. Other factors that influence variations in drug response besides age and body size are pathological conditions (Madian, Wheeler, Jones & Dolan, 2012). Pathological conditions are associated with the functioning of body organs such as the liver and kidney. Worth noting is that the pathological conditions can be determined by genetics, gender, ethnicity, among other environmental factors.
Nonetheless, any given dosages for the two patients would depend on the life of the drugs and the corresponding medical processes involved. For example, as for Ms. Jones, her reduced body weight would facilitate the drug’s metabolism faster than that of Mr. Smith. On the other hand, extravagant behaviors such as consumption of alcoholic drinks and other drugs are harmful and can interfere with the activity of some chosen drugs (Daly, 2019). Examples of deleterious medications include over the counter drugs bought from the streets without the prescription of a medical specialist (Tong & Fairfax, 2020). Numerous consequences result from these habits and have a severe impact on the life of a person. For example, liver damage, heart complications, blood pressure, fatigue, and dizziness can result from mixing drugs. This lowers the quality of life of a person regardless of the amount consumed. Therefore, it is equally important to observe the given prescriptions, eat a healthy diet, avoid extravagant behaviors, and exercise regularly to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
