WAN technology
I’m currently working for a company that utilize WAN technology that is CapitalOne bank. CapitalOne bank uses WAN technology to connect their geographically separated offices. However, many companies utilize different network technology to connect their geographically separated offices base on their needs. CapitalOne bank, a financial institution and a technology base company, but happen to be in a banking business have grown from a small local business company into a global enterprise. CapitalOne financial have retail branches in different states in United states, corporate offices, and call centers across the globe such as Philippines, India, Canada, and United Kingdom (UK). To be able to connect and transfer data from the retail branches location to their data center, a private WAN technology is used such as MPLS Ethernet circuit 10mg – 6 ports is utilize to connect separated branches to their data center. In addition, their regional offices and call centers outside United States, are all links to data center in United State (Headquarter) with a private WAN technology such as MPLS 10gb port and 5gb access. WAN stand for wide area network. A WAN links multiple LAN. WAN is deployed for larger geographical zone. WAN helps clients and computers in a single area to speak or communicate with clients and computer in different areas.
WAN is owned by service provider such as cable company, telephone company or satellite service. WAN operation focus primarily on the physical layer (OSI layer 1) and the data link layer (OSI layer 2).
A wide area network (WAN) is a geographically distributed private telecommunication network that interconnects multiple local area networks (LANs) in an enterprise, a WAN may consist of connections to a company’s headquarters, branch offices, colocation facilities, cloud services and other facilities (Rouse, n.d.).
They ‘re many benefits of using a WAN technology. WAN technology helped cover expensive geographical zone so that networks can be developed between extended distance. WAN technology helped to enhanced the performance of the network without expensive and additional hardware. Finally, it has helped to speed up large amount of data transfer to upgrade disaster recovery abilities. Another great benefit of using WAN technology is that, WAN brings privacy and security to the organization network through the dedicated connection that the data is passing.
A WAN provides a direct, dedicated connection through which your data can pass. This limits opportunities for others to intercept your data as it is in transit between locations. (First Light, 2017).

Thank you for the overview of how WAN technology is utilized in your organization. The technology is used to connect different offices based on their need. The main benefit of the technology is that it covers expensive geographical zone so that networks can be developed between extended distances. Moreover, it helps to enhance the performance of the network without expensive and additional hardware. Also, it speeds up the transfer of a large amount of data.

A company that uses network technology to connect their geographically separated offices is the company I work for which is Arm Ltd. This British company is a global semiconductor and software design company that holds the Intellectual Property (IP) of processor design which they gain royalties through licensing. Their original headquarters are based here in Cambridge, United Kingdom and we have offices globally that cohesively work together to achieve the company’s goal which is one trillion connected devices (Lisa, 2018). Arm’s mission through means of the Internet of Things (IoT) and autonomous machines can only be achieved through the connection of our sites worldwide.
One of the ways that Arm collaborates on a global scale is with the integration of a Wide Area Network (WAN). This network technology extends its coverage from cities to states and even countries. On a local level (e.g., our headquarters in Cambridge), we operate using a Local Area Network (LAN) which groups together our devices and assigns unique Internet Protocol (IP) addresses to each device. In order to communicate with other sites globally, we operate on a Client/Server LAN which connects each of us in Cambridge to a central server which ultimately gets sent to our router, firewall, and the internet (Teske, 2019). Ultimately, the ability to connect each of Arm’s LANs together on the WAN and communicate is through Internet Service Providers (ISPs) using the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Furthermore, Arm uses a leased line which allows for a dedicated broadband connection.
There are a plethora of benefits to using a WAN as it’s common place for many corporate offices, but there are a few notable advantages. One of the top advantages is server consolidation which removes the need for a separate email and file server; only one is required at the headquarters. By having a WAN, you’ve integrated a secure method to encrypt your data which adds extra protection to a transferring message. This includes the possibility of using Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) creating a private tunnel to securely communicate over the company WAN where any internet connection exists. Additionally, with the integration of a leased line, companies can expect to see higher upload speeds and potentially unlimited data transfer limits (Thomas, 2016).

Thank you for your post. You have illustrated ways in which your organization uses network technology to connect devices. On a local level, the firm uses LAN to connect devices and assign unique internet protocol. On a global scale, the organization uses WAN to extend its coverage from cities to states and even countries. The benefit of using WAN is that it provides a secure method to encrypt data.

There are a lot of companies available which are utilizing the network technology to connect their geographically separated offices however, we will discuss AT&T (American Telephone and Telegraph) here. AT & T is an American company that took up an experiment on September 20, 1994, when 32,000 employees stayed at home and became a part of research to find an Alternative Workspace!
The network technology that they primarily used as a VPN. A virtual private network allowed the employees to access their employer’s private network sitting right in their homes, securely over the unrestful public network (Internet).
So, now, the employees of AT&T who work from home using VPN and VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol). VoIP allows the employees to stay connected over voice calls, instead of using the cellular network and recurring significant charges.
The benefit of using a VPN to access the company’s internal network publically allows the employees to access the same set of functions that they could use while sitting physically at their offices. This reduces the need for travel and other logistics. Furthermore, this encourages more productivity as a significant amount of time is saved – productivity for both, the employee and hence the company. Moreover, VPN technology is completely secure.
All of this results in huge cost savings as well a significant increase in productivity and hence the returns on investments.

Thank you for your post. AT&T is an example of a U.S. company that uses VPN and VoIP technologies. The VPN technology allows the employees to be able to access the private network of their employer while sitting in their homes. On the other hand, the VoIP ensures that the employees are connected over voice calls instead of the expensive cellular network. The benefit of using a VPN is that it eliminates the need to travel and also increases productivity.
